Whoa Oprah, Nice!

Oprah Winfrey surprises audience with new cars
September 13, 2004 (Chicago) Talk show host Oprah Winfrey celebrated the premiere of her 19th season today with a big surprise.
She gave everyone in her audience a brand new car.

Making sure the audience was kept in suspense, Winfrey opened the show by calling eleven audience members onto the stage. She gave each of them a car -- a Pontiac G-Six.

She then had gift boxes distributed to the rest of the audience and said one of the boxes contained keys to a 12th car. But when the audience members opened the boxes, each had a set of keys.

Audience members screamed and many began crying as Winfrey yelled "everybody gets a car!"

The audience then ran out to the parking lot at Harpo Studios to check out their new G-Sixes

my step mom and 2 sisters went to a taping of oprah last year. they were 1 day off the famed Christmas show. Without annoucing anything, sometime in nov, they tape the christmas show where oprah talks about good christmas gifts and ends up giving everything she talks about to the audience. If i remember right, last year each audience member went home with just over $17,000 in gifts. She does this every year. How cool is that?

Wow, that's the way to keep an audience coming back. It must be rough being a billionaire.

aren't we picky

worst case scenario - can't afford the tax? sell the car, and have decent amount of "pocket" change

G6 is what replaced the Grand Am this year. It's a whole new world though, not just a rebadged Grand Am. Very cool car.

She coulda picked a better car for that price... She's probably sponsored by Pontiac or something. I doubt she's losing that much on it, Pontiac is probably in on it too.

Even if it all is outta pocket for her, it's really just a drop in the bucket to her.

100%.....best thing to do is sell it at a reasonable/realistic price to determine market value and pay your 40% to the man and keep the cash.

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

the worst part about this is that all the people in the audience were invited to be there since family members or friends of these people wrote in saying they desparately needed a new car but couldnt afford it. i am thinking these people will definitely not be able to afford the taxes on these new cars since they couldnt get new ones in the first place.

276 at $20K is $5,520,000!

Damn is an understatement. I think she has to work a couple of days to make that...
