interesting experiment, krypto lock+bic pen

just stumbled on this and didn't see anything posted here.

so...http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=66128

....quoted from post......As you guys might remember, I recently had the nicest set of wheels I've ever had stolen from me. Today I was hanging out with a friend and we got to talking about that - he said his friend showed him just recently how to open a U-Lock with a ball point pen.

Hmmmm.....sounds to me like the secret is out. If they want it, they will get it, it sucks, but there isnt really anything you can do to be 100% sure.

Holy crap - that's messed up. I used to use one of those on my bicycle back in the day..

Looks like that trick might work on any cylinder type locking mechanism...

Vending machines?? Hehe...

My first thought also.

My other thougth was a little more scary. Harley ignition keys are cylindrical locks.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Wow,
That's pretty inventive. Sucks though, but cool.

Yeah, but who would want one?

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

Q: Will an aftermarket key such as Papermate work with this lock, or must the key be an authentic Bic? Answered on Sep-18-04
A: Great question! I never tried a Papermate, so I don't really know if those will work. In my opinion, it is best to stick with the original keys, which are supplied.
