Life without a TV

Today I begin my life without cable or a satellite dish. In a effort to cut costs and scrape myself off the couch, I cancelled my Dish. The other day, I realized there is a public library 400 feet from my apartment. I also cancelled AOL, So I have no internet at home after Sept 4th. I might as well cancel my home phone too. Altogether I just saved myself about $90/month.

I pretty much have no furniture in my place and my credit card balances only seem to increase each month, so it was tiem to get drastic. Not buying a shock and exhaust system for my bike would have helped too.

How long do you guys think I'll survive without these modern emenities???

I guess I was gettign bored wiht my lifestyle. So I also started running again and working out at least 8 times/week. I plan to lose 10 lbs in 4 weeks and 20 lbs by November.....from 186lbs now to 166lbs.

I was 168 when I raced bicycles in college and 160 when I was doing triathlons.

I figure with 20 less lbs I can shave a second off my BHF and Gratton laptimes.

I'll make this a freindly contest if anyone else wants to join me. 20lbs. is 11% of my weight. Anyone else want to try and match that before Christmas?

Hmmm, I'd like to try. Would be nice to get more people involved. Have some sort of contest so we could win something worthwhile.

A new Arai lid or something of that value would be cool. We could probably make it money and they could use it towards whatever. Me, I'd like to lose some weight and get a set of custom Vansons. Some money towards that would be cool.

Mike, are you feeling okay?

Congratulations on banishing the "idiot box"... I lived for 10 years without one, and I had a lot more fun back then. Come to think of it, I was thinner, too.

Because of fundage I'm cancelling the membership to the gym and will use weights at home. I never went often enough anyway
And if they ever do figure out how to bill me for DSL, I my just go with dial-up to save $30 month on that.

I need the TV for Speed TV and Hockey, maybe a DVD/VHS rental from the library, Thats about it.

I figure I'm already saving money because I never go to the gym and won't ever shell out for a membership

Hey Mike, when you're bored and really need to resume your couch potato ways, you can hook up a laptop to my wi-fi and watch satellite/TiVo after you jog/bicycle the multiple marathon distances to my place

of course the entrance fee will be a 6pack of beer and a pizza

Dude, you can do it. I never watch tv and I'm fine. Of course, I do stuff on the computer about as often as my dad watches TV, so maybe that's just as bad. I can't say I'm with you on the 20 lbs., but I'm trying to get more in shape, so we'll see what's up come November, I guess. Only thing is that I don't really have a scale, but the doctor last weighed me at.. uhm.. 159--I need more muscle, I guess.

Shit dude, so I guess that means you will be stopping in more often to watch some of your favorites, Dawson's Creek, Seventh Heaven, and Charmed ...Oh, and I almost forgot the reruns of Mama's Family

I would be down for the competition, but 20lbs is out of the question. I just want to get down to 170lbs. from 185lbs. My problem is I don't have the time you have to exercise. Right now, school is too demanding. I will get in on it though, but just as an incentive to lose weight, but not to wager.

Doc

BTW- I won't cheat and use some of my old wrestling tricks to lose weight. I once lost 11lbs. in 2 days

Well, I've cut the gym too, August is my last month. Guess I getter start and get those last few days in. Also killed cable several months ago. It was good at first, I just watched my collection of DVD's, now I've gotten to the point where I'm even going to the VHS.

As far as the weight, I'm in if you can count me putting ON 20lbs not taking it off. Hell, I've finally got myself sonsistant 160lbs and am shooting for 175 by years end. Yeah, skinny Lupi weighs more than you think, just don't ask were I put it!

Jack, I guess I just need to hit the BEEFCAKE!!!!

GL Mike!

You may be surprised how well you manage to find better things to do than TV.

I'm set up with a treadmill and weight machine that I'm trying to get back in the habit of. I think winter and less motorcycle will help get back in the groove.

I'm not looking to make it a contest or lose much weight though, mostly just redistribute the weight already there and gain back some strength.

No marathons for me!

The 400 mile daily commute to/from my parents house would really be a killer. Especially with the traffic on I-80.

Hey Mike I got a love seat for ya if ya want it its in my way, cuz my place is too small so if ya want or need it let me know.
Doc, I want to know about that 11lbs in 2 days, that way I can enter the contest in Oct and not suffer all that time
Although my system of refusing to buy food at a grocery store definately helps me from becomming a complete pig.

Also guys, if you want good, reliable internet service for 9.95 a month look up Lightfirst.com I never get booted and you dont get all the bullshit AOL provides....... I use dial up though but it works for me.

This is gonna hurt!

Basically, it's starvation (in a sense) and dehydration. Although if you are anything like me, I could stand to lose water weight. Basically, you eat oatmeal or cream of wheat for breakfast, diet shake for lunch, and applesauce for dinner. If you aren't regular by then, add a glass of metamusil (sp?)/day. Then, couple that w/ sleeping in garbage bags, a sweat suit, and a heated mattress pad and voila...11lbs. gone

I hit 230lbs the other day...heaviest ever. I just started a new regimen of eating better....before I just ate everything. I used to be able to get away with as long as I lifted; now I can't seem to find the time. For the last couple of days I've been keeping my calories under 1800 a day, carbs <125grams. fat <75grams, and my protein >150grams. I've been doing pretty well and am down 7lbs so far (1hp).

I guess my point is it's always good to have a buddy to compete with on this type of crap. I'll do this with you Cherry. My goal is a muscular 200lbs like I used to be by Thanksgiving. I go more by bodyfat than by weight. Once I start lifting I tend to blow up and gain muscular weight, but my clothes tell the real tale.

Docs tactics do work, but it's just water weight loss and temporary. I can drop 20 lbs in 30 days; I've done it before. It's just a big shock to my system and not the greatest thing to do.

As far as cutting some luxuries out, do what you have to. TV is just a waste. Even though I am guilty of watching way too much.

Sorry for the rambling...

You're on. We'll make Ken the judge. I'm mostly looking to lose just body fat too. I plan to pull double workouts at least 3 days a week and go for a long bicycle ride or run on Sat. or Sun.

Pretty much I just cut out the non-diet sodas, cut back of riding my motorcycle and stop sitting in front of the couch watching TV eating ice cream

Om so watching TV wasnt the problem it was the ice cream that was killing you.

I would go nuts wothout my satelite system. Not to mention the site would fall apart completely if I didnt have my high speed internet connection. Get rid of your home phone and just use a cell phone that will save you a few bucks a month. A home phone is just a luxury these days. Theres no reason to have one any more. Although wait till october, we are all getting a 50 dollar credit per line from ameritech. If your really lookin for more money just get a part time bartending job or something. It's better than being miserable.

I have internet at work so I can at elast keep touch. My computer is too old and slow to take much advantage of a higher speed connection.

Don't you need a phone like for DSL??? I can't get a Cable modem because AT&T has there head up their ass over here. I only used my phone line right now for AOL and ot make local calls.

Well DSL is just a different type of phone line. thats a whole different deal. The only thing that has me holding on to my home phone right now is the fact that my company gaveme a fax machine. and pay poer view on satelite. Otherwise it would be gone. That would be like 60 bucks a month saved.

I'm going on vacation in Nov. I need to slim down and put some muscle back on before I swim up to the bar in mexico. I will be weighing myself and taking a few digital pictures soon. I will be competeing with you guys in my head, if not directly. Competition always makes workouts and dieting much easier, and more fun.
