That’s Gay

Is anyone else offended when they hear someone say, “That’s Gay”?

Usually that quote is used in place of “That’s stupid” or “That makes no sense.”
In that sense, one is implying that being a homosexual is stupid, and that actually offends me.

I mean, looking at a dictionary tells us that to be gay is to be either “happy” or a homosexual. I know it has become a form of slang, but how and why?

Not everyone agrees with homosexuality and I can see those individuals using “That’s Gay” in that negative context. But for those people who are indifferent to homosexuality, when they use it, it makes no sense to me as to why they would.

If it’s used when you see a guy walking around in a pink tank top, then I can understand assuming that he is gay. But how can something that is just dumb, be considered gay?

When in college I joined a diverse fraternity, where a quarter of the house was gay, and another third of the house were international students. It truly taught me about diversity and acceptance. I myself am not gay. I like to dine at the pink taco, but a friend of mine went off a few nights ago saying “That’s Gay” every five minutes.

Just had to rant.
And I’m curious to others’ opinions.

Ride Safe.

Where is it that a cigarette is commonly called a FAG? Is that in England?

The subject of your gripe has not offended me yet. I don't really care what people say, so long as it does not have any effect me.

If you are going to be so picky, then don't call heterosexual mating "dining at the pink taco."

IMO 'gay' used like that seems a carry over term from high school homophobia, i got the phrase out of my language, bunch of other stuff too, no sense in it but it doesn't grate on me when others use it, whatever overall, the reference of the term is typically not harmful assuming a hetero audience, there are better descriptions though

That "friend" he was talking about was me.

My vocabulary was a bit truncated the other night as I was delerious will illness/fever. I see nothing wrong with using this term with the aforesaid connotation. It's called "colloquialism " and it's a perfectly normal phenomenon of linguistics.

And YOU'RE GAY!

Tom, if you think I'm such a gay-bashing hater, then why don't you address my narrow-mindedness and send me to sensitivity training so I can stop being so hateful of homosexuals, because you know that I am, right? Yeah, I hate gay people. That's what you're implying, right? Those fags! Geez!

I'm so glad you have shown me the error of my ways. I will stop hating gay people now.

And your reward for joining a "diverse" fraternity will be in the mail. That was very charitable of you. Makes me look like such a horrible person in comparison.

This thread is GAY!

So saying something is gay offends you. I get offended everyday. I am on a international web board for a band I like and they bash me about being an American. It offends me but f*ck it. I ain't got time to worry about that.

Talk about stereotypes, how come you associate a guy walking down the street in a pink tank top as gay. That is stereotyping the gay community.

Talkig about heterosexuality as 'dine at the pink taco' is offensive and derogatory to women.

Remember, those who are without sin cast the first stone.

Damn DucatiDestroyer, it took some balls to even start this thread! It sounds to me like you are a stand-up guy. I will admit that I used to use that phrase a few years ago I guess when it first became popular. It wasn't until I said it around a co-worker that was gay that I decided that it was offensive and ignorant. It would be wrong for me to knowingly offend people due to there lifestyle, race, religious beliefs etc. I am secure in my manhood and believe in treating others how I would like to be treated and that includes Gays and Lesbians. I know you are getting a lot of flack (some of it is funny as hell too) but when you stand up for what you believe in you have to be aware that there are others that disagree and are waiting to pounce.

i agree this is way gay.
