Sick way of putting it, but it is a good point.

Mine has been! Well before I even bought a bike! A kidney doner extended my wifes life for 4 great years. All I was told from the medics was the doner was riding a motercycle and had a life ending accident.

Just another asswipe in the media. I'm glad he doesn't ride. If I ever saw him at bike night I'd give him a swift kick in the nads.

I like this part:

"No sooner do I conjure up the image of Hog King Neil, racing his bike down the open road, "Born to Be Wild" blaring on my personal soundtrack, than it is replaced by the twig, or pothole, or whatever would send me flipping into the guardrail, the flash of which would be my last sight on Earth."

What a chicken shit. A twig will send him flipping into a guardrail? He's probably that dumbass in the BMW SUV that almost ran me off the road because he was on his cell phone and not paying attention.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Well it can't all be wrong...Out of the 150 or so bikers checking out this summer, some of those could be extra parts.

YOu guys have it right on... he even admits that he basically is a total pussy and that's why he doesn't ride.

"I can see why. Motorcycles have romantic appeal. Even supremely cautious guys like myself cast envious glances. Harley-Davidson motorcycles are beautiful. And like a lot of men, daydreaming as I shuffle through my numbing daily routine, the part of my brain that isn't already dead, but is desperately groping for some way to spice up what is left of my life, thinks: "I could buy a Harley.''"

His last paragraph on security is actually very good. The same thing can be said about quality control in the pharmaceutucal industry... which is half the reason drugs cost so much.

Heck, I've had mine filled out back when they first came out and it had nothing to do with bikes. BTW, I don't want to waste time looking it up, but think how many more cagers crash and die vs. bikers. If they want spare parts, that is the place to go.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.

I don't really see a bunch of true envy there. Read the rest of the column. It was just a random poke. Whole page was bullshit. I want my 3 minutes back!

"Why are there more heart transplants in the summer" "A brain teaser I like to throw out at parties" First of all you start poppin off with shit like that at one of my parties and your gonna catch a beating. Even if I didn't ride a bike using the tragedy and misfortune of others to make yourself look clever is never cool kids. Second the fact that these people died and signed away their organs to give someone else maybe a second shot at life or in the least a more pleasant one does not make motorcyclists idiots as he vaguely implied. There is a risk associated with almost everything in life, especailly the fun stuff. Live in a cave if you want, but don't go bagging on other people because there out there living. Eh, everyone has an opinion... its just a matter of taking it personally. There are those who like to talk, but never did the walk.. so personally, this guy's article takes very little precedence in my book. Tell me something i don't know for a change... everyone knows there are risks involved in riding, dunno if its much more than someone who just drag races cars in the street, or people who drink and drive..etc. It takes responsibility on our part... ride defensively, ride safe... don't horse around on public highways.. Oh, my donor card has been filled out since I turned 18..

I can't belive this jerk:

"Please set the record straight with your readers. We look forward to reading your retraction."

Steinberg's response: "Thank you for your comment. There will be no retraction."

If you would like to let Chicago Sun-Times columnist Neil Steinberg know how you feel about his column, you may e-mail him at [email protected].

I know medical people have to use every effort to save your life, but a lot of doctors think of motorcycle riders as organ donors. I don't think a medical professional would let you die if they could help it, but they may not give you the level of care of someone else. Many non-riders automicatically think it was the motorcyclists fault in any accident and look down upon people coming into the ER from a motorcycle accident.
