Another tech question

Ok guys, I got a laptop cheap but it has the BIOS password on. I need to get around it. I took it apart last night looking for the battery and could not find it, so I assume its probably soldered to the board. I tried looking for backdoor passwords and other information on the web couldn't find anything that worked. I just need to get it reset. I'm open to suggestions and help thanks.

Can you locate the BIOS chip?

If it's an AMI, there are backdoor passwords for that, just Google for "AMI password hack", "AMI password crack", stuff like that...

Download the bios on the HP website and replace the Bios. It may or may not retain the old settings.

are there jumper settings that you can change on that particular laptop, that will wipe out the password?

Not on an HP Notebook. You would have to open it up and find the battery for the CMOS and cut it. After a while 10-15 minutes you re-solder it. That is worst case scenerio.

mthal - downloading and replacing the bios right now won't work since it requests the password on power up. I'm going to try to short the chip. after that ill try the battery, if i can find it.
