Lawnmower ?

I think I broke my lawnmower this weekend....I pulled the starter cord and it made a loud popping sound as it tried to fire up....almost like a backfiring. After the "pop" it wasn't even close to starting.

I've had this Craftsman self propelled mower for about 5 years and never had a problem.

Any ideas? I need to cut my grass a couple more times before winter. ANyone work on mowers or know someone that does.

My dad does... Usually Lawn Boys, but I can ask him tonight if you want. Are you getting spark? Compression? Will it run if you put a little gas in the cylinder?

Try a new sparkplug first. I've rescued a few junked lawnmowers with just that fix. If that doesn't work, see if it will start at all with starting fluid. I spray the starter fluid onto the air filter then try to start it. If it runs for a couple seconds on starting fluid, your carb is probably gummed up. Here's a website that might be helpful: Lawn Mower forum

sounds like the spark plug came loose and popped out. Check that first.
