Dixie Square Mall

I know this isn't recent news at all, but I was watching The Blues Brothers tonight on TV and it came to mind.

What was the deal with this mall? I thought I heard after the movie was shot, the owners of the mall never got reimbursed for the damaged caused in the cop chase scene. That would be why the building sat (sits?) in ruins for so many years.

Anyone remember the facts behind the movie and the mall remaining destroyed?

I grew up in the South 'Burbs and that mall was an empty hole way before the Blues Brothers movie came out. The film folks actually put everything into that place to make it look like a populated mall for the movie, filmed their scenes, and packed up and left.

I am not in this world to live up to your expectations, nor are you here to live up to mine.
