Google Strikes Again

Another cool service provided by Google:

http://maps.google.com/

This web application renders like a mo-fo and puts Mapquest to shame.

That's pretty sweet. I like how you can click and drag the map around so you can see what streets are near the address you are looking at.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

I noticed that at work, where I have a faster Internet connection that the Google Map blazes with speed. I can move the local views around in real time.

This svaed me a lot of time at work today mapping out different address's, I hope they go full speeed ahead with this.

Next if they really want to make me happy, I should be able to click over to a satelite image of what ever I'm looking at with one button. I would be in heaven then.

That would be costly! There are private companies that do it and you just have to pay for it.

Back to the topic.... Mapquest always did suck to me. I've hated them with their long way to everything and sometimes just wrong info. Google has been ruling since they came on the scene and when they get the library of books up and running it'll be even more dangerous.
This is great and I'm bookmarking it.

GOOD BYE MAPQUEST!!!!!

Actually, it used to be a free service. It is still free in some sense, but if you want higher resolution pictures (to look closer than 8m) you can pay and get them. Mapquest had it integrated for a while using terraserver I believe. It is a matter or buying the images which google can do no problem. The thing is that a lot of the pictures are old. I am sure google will some day offer it. It is true that you can pay to get the images right now, but I see it more like google will put all those companies out of business when it releases that feature.

I also love Google's Desktop search application. That plug-in has saved my butt quite a few times at work.
