'Low riding pants bill'? What the hell?

And in Virginia of all places?

Taken from: http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/02/09/lo....ap/index.html

"RICHMOND, Virginia (AP) -- Virginians who wear their pants so low their underwear shows may want to think about investing in a stronger belt.

The state's House of Delegates passed a bill Tuesday authorizing a $50 fine for anyone who displays his or her underpants in a "lewd or indecent manner."

Del. Lionell Spruill Sr., a Democrat who opposed the bill, had pleaded with his colleagues to remember their own youthful fashion follies.

During an extended monologue Monday, he talked about how they dressed or wore their hair in their teens. On Tuesday, he said the measure was an unconstitutional attack on young blacks that would force parents to take off work to accompany their children to court just for making a fashion statement.

"This is a foolish bill, Mr. Speaker, because it will hurt so many," Spruill said before the measure was approved 60-34. It now goes to the state Senate.

The bill's sponsor, Del. Algie T. Howell, has said constituents were offended by the exposed underwear. He did not speak on the floor Tuesday.

Spruill and Howell, also a Democrat, are both black."

I'll give you that. I just heard on CNN that it was a time waster and some sort of control issue and it wouldn't go through.

This has got to be one of the stupidest things for lawmakers to spend time on. How retarded it is to put so much time and effort into getting kids to pull up their pants?

I hope it doesn't pass. I let my pants sag when I was a kid, so what?

I think their time would be better spent passing laws that restrict the sale of firearms!!!!

Just kidding about that last thing, please don't ban me.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

It really is a waste of time, I cant believe they can be doing something better with thier time like improving the economy in thier state or something. This is exactly why I hate government getting too big, get out of our lives and stick to defending us and enforcing the real laws of the land.

No, sometimes they're just plain stupid. Not sucky, but utterly and incomprehensibly stupid. You know like when you get into a fight with someone and you get way off topic and bring stuff up that has nothing to do with anything? Yea, that kinda stupid.

I don't care about some kids boxers showing. But this law would force the chicks to hide the top of that thong.

Let the school system and parents deal with dress codes. Overall a waste of time to pass the law and enforce it. As long as they are still covering up most of their private parts... let people wear what they want. It you can actually see more than you should... we already have indescent exposure and public nudity laws.

IF girls want to dress slutty with their panties sticking out and guys want to dress like like gang bangers... feel free. I will simply label them as such and treat them accordingly until proven otherwise.

no need to worry about legislation like this....darwin rules will take care of everything. all the blubber butts are doing themselves in by feeding poisons to their heart, liver, organs. Diabetes, Heart Disease and cancer will take care of this prob...too bad it will just take a while and taxpayers will bear the brunt in medical payments because people will be trying to lipo their probs away instead of correcting them properly....
