Who's got their taxes done yet? I'm doing mine now. THis is the first time I've done them myself. Let's pray or a audit free year.

I already did mine, kinda. I use turbo tax online and they walk you through it, very simple. Federal filing is free, they charge you $20 for state filing though.

E filing question. To e-file you have to enter in your gross income from last yr to confirm. Well I cant find my w2 from last yr. How do I find out what it was so I can finish this?

Thepro8, since you had a closing last year on your condo, I assume that you deducted all those closing fees including any points on your loan? Plus, mortgage interest and propety taxes paid.

Actually, it is you adjusted gross income. So, you'd have get the amount from your last 1040 and not your W-2.

I love being a student. I get all my federal back and half of my state. Woohoo. Also if you go to www.freetaxusa.com they will do a federal for you for free and then state costs you $13 bucks.

My 2003 return was on my old computer when I used Tax Cut software last year. I can't find my paper copy. Doh! So now I can't e-file. Oh well.

I'm pissed becasue this year I made too much money to deduct my student loan interest. Grrr... Accordingly to the software I'm paying over $3000 more in taxes than other people in my income bracket. I guess I need a wife and 1.2 kids for some more deductions.

I might try bumping up my 401k contributions ot reduce my GAI. That should help me get my student loan deductions back. Never hurts to save a little more for retirement anyway.

To deduct the costs, look at your HUD statement. Your HUD will be in your closing packet that was given to you from the title company. It is a legal-size document and it should be two pages long.

As for the marriage thing, I'm not an expert on that, but my guess is that it will probably be easier to file separate, rather than joint returns. Also, my guess is that filing separate 1040s, will reap a higher federal tax return. You'll have to play with the numbers on that one.

Check your HUD-1 statement for your closing costs (the legal sheet you sign @ the title company) and you can file married (if your'e using turbo tax, you can switch filing status to find out which way is better for you and your spouse)

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"
