if your prescription is still valid you can go get them at costco for $18.74/box. I think that's what I got my Acuvue Advance for a few months ago.

some of the online places will ship boxes to you without validating a prescription. I used to get mine from 800contacts.com or visiondirect when I was paying out of my own pocket and using my flex account bucks. but now I just let work pay for all that crap and not bother with the reimbursement route.

do they want any paper work, or can i bring my old box? 800 contacts asks for your doctor info and they want to call them up.

Yep, now they want a script for contacts. I always used vissondirect, com because they never asked for a script but like 2 years ago the FDA passed a law that you must have a valid scipt less than 1 year old. I ended up going to for eyes and got a pretty good deal. For eyes also does price matching so if you find a good price online print it up and show it to them. They will match it instead of lossing your money.

OK, where can you get Lasik at reasonable rates? Been thinking about it for awhile.

Hmmmm not sure where in Indiana, but I had a neighbor in Barrington do mine, I only needed one eye to be done, I have 20/20 now. My wife who was almost blind had to get the RK, she was the one that convinced me to get it done. All I have to say, is do your research, should be about one G.

Not that expensive! It was about 3 G's last I checked a couple years ago. But that was only with the Dr. I had at the time. Need to start looking into it again.

+1 with that. I hate glasses and contacts but can't afford the surgery right now. I've been following it for years and every year the price has dropped. I think it's stable now and will rest at what Rick said, a G. But hey, if you qualify you can get your eyes financed. But if you miss two payments they can repossess your eyes!

1800contacts makes you enter the doctor information, but they won't contact them if you just fax them a copy of your old contact boxes so they can verify the prescription.

Not to hijack the thread, but...
If anyone has had laser surgery and has had a good/bad experience please let me know - I'm currently looking at different doctors but this is one thing where it would be nice to have some personal feedback instead of me guessing.

A few of my friends had it done. I'm getting it in a month or two. Everyone I know is very happy with it. The only person who was at first disapointed is someone who had it done the old way, RKI. The doctor I am going to is in highland park. very good guy. But expensive, $4,500. but it includes 3 years of touch ups if need be and in the future $200 per eye should you need it. Most people don't need touch ups for over 20-30 years.

Maybe if rick doesn't let his son go on spring break, he can spend the money for me on lasik

contacts dont bother me at all. I only need to clean them once a day and i dont feel them. I was going to get the eye operation years back, when the laser thing started to develop. I still might do it, if i know i can get into the pilot program in the AF. But ive read, they may disqualify you for having lasik.

People i know who had it done have no issues.

Pros and cons to that my friend.
1. I have had contacts non-stop for 25 years. No problems. Don't fix it if it ain't broken.
2. I correct to 20/15 or better. I can almost read the last line on the chart. I'm very picky about my vision. Per my doc Lasik will not get me there. If my vision was shitty, it would be a different story.
3. There is always a risk of complications. I'd hate to be the 1 of 1000 that gets fucked up.
4. Vision changes and you might be right back where you started wearing contacts in a few years.
5. At a hundred or so for a year's supply of contacts I'll never get my $ out of Lasik so contacts are cheaper.
6. I'm a chicken shit and don't want someone cutting open my eye and zapping me.

There is nothing firm, nothing balanced, nothing durable in all the universe. Nothing remains in its original state, each day, each hour, each moment, there is change. Change is the essence of life. Embrace change as you do life. To fight change is to live in the past.
