New Local Weather Channel

From today's Feder...

February 11, 2005

BY ROBERT FEDER SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST

When it comes to getting weather on television, Tom Skilling will always be our go-to guy. But now Chicago has its first cable channel for all-local weather 24 hours a day.

NBC 5 Weather Plus, an all-digital broadcast network airing nothing but up-to-date weather conditions and forecasts, has signed on Comcast Digital Cable Channel 194 and HD Channel 5-2.

WMAQ-Channel 5's weather team, including Brant Miller, Andy Avalos and Tammie Souza, provide continuous information.

"NBC 5 is proud to launch another first in Chicago," said Larry Wert, president and general manager of Channel 5. "Weather Plus provides viewers the expertise of our weathercasters and access to all of our weather technology 24 hours a day. Viewers are now able to get their local weather information when they want it."

NBC has launched its Weather Plus channels on 14 of its own stations and on 22 other affiliates nationwide.

Cool I'll have to check that out when I get home on my HD set.

HDTony.... Damn glad to meet you!

Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
