Speaking of home security

Figured this could make a seperate topic. When it comes to security systems and alarms. What do you use? Anything in the garage? Is your system monitored or unmonitored?

I'm looking at getting an unmonitored system, but one that might auto call the police if there is something like that to avoid a monthly charge, or is there no getting around it?

Lowes has a whole isle of home security alarms. Some of them only emmit noise, others will sound and call up to 2 phone numbers. I imagine that you'd program them to call your cell and you could call the police.

If you have a detached garage your phone line might not be out there though.

To get around this, you can use a cell connected unit. They are not that expensive and circumvent thieves who cut your phone line. Take a look at where your phone line enters your house. Pretty easy to disable the alarm calling the police. If you don't go with a cell backup option, you need to make sure to protect your outside phoneline by putting conduit over it at the very least.
