Dude......sooooo hard......

I tried many times.....finally got it though......the first seven to 10 days fuckin suck, so lock up your guns, and give the keys to someone else.

Get past that and things start to get better. The only problem is that every time you smell one, you will want to light up.........I am goin on 4 months right now, and during that first seven days I wanted to kill someone.......Good Luck-_____think of your health and the fact that every cigarette is killing you, and think about all the good shit you can buy for your bike (or how many lap dances you can fund) if you dont buy cigarettes.............. no smoking!

"When in doubt, use full throttle. It may not improve your situation, but it will end the suspense."

Dude. You can do it. I did it myself about 10 years ago. It was a bitch, but it only gets easier as the days go by. If you really dont want to quit then you won't be able to so make sure you're ready.

If you need someone to bitch to, fire away, because I know that you are going to be an a$$hole for a couple of weeks.

Good luck!

Seriously I may have to ban you from the site for your own good for a week.

I did it about a year and a half ago cold turkey, haven't had one since then (dec 10th 2003)

I did it while I was out of twon on a business trip so I wouldnt piss of everyone back home. I was gone for about a week and it really helped being away from home and the usual routines, those routines are what makes it hard to quit. stay away from any bars, dont go around people that smoke, clean out the ashtrays in your truck and spray some air freshner in there so you dont smell it. Trust me it can be done but its gonna take a lot of hard work and dedication on your part, just reeber if you can make it through today than you CAN make it through tomarrow if you want to, I gaurante it. You can always call me for advice.

hey ken you can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I quit cold, from two packs a day 13 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did, except for the weight gain and my knees went out,
but dont let that stop you!! it is tough, and change all your behavior away from everything that you associate with smoking, and dont replace with gum it is just another mouth activity that keeps your focus there try shooting or anything else. and the physical addiction is only a 72 hour deal the rest is in your head.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did it 2 years ago without any problems after smoking since age 13. I can't say that I've ever seen any real benefits other than getting rid of what many think to be a 'dirty' habit. You'll save money in the end and feel good about beating it. Be honest with yourself - do you really NEED them? No! If all else fails drink more to take your mind off it. Good luck!

Ken, I use to smoke 3 packs a day, I quit cold turkey 6 years ago. It's all mental, you have to want it. The physical addiction (nicotine) you get over in about a week. My tips are, quit for 5 minutes, by that I mean, don't think your quitting for ever, quit for 5 minutes, tell yourself "I can quit for 5 minutes!" then when your done with the first 5 minutes, go for another 5 minutes and keep stringing the small sucesses together, the next thing you know it's 6 years later. I even went to WalMart and bought a watch with a countdown alarm, it drove everyone nuts for the first week, going off every 5 minutes. Another tip is break your usual smoking routine, for me it was coffee and cigs first thing in the morning. I did that by walking in the morning, don't even attempt to run, I just about hurled a lung out when I did that! Another tip, just get some sugar free gum, and pop that into your face instead of cigarette. Also, remember if I see you smoking , I'll call you a weak willed sally girl and kick your ass

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

I quit last year. chewing on toothpicks helped me. Wierdest thing though. I smoke when I'm out of town now. As soon as I get back I stop again with now desire to smoke.

Ken, if I can do it, so can you. You just have to want it badly enough.

I went cold turkey from a 10-year, 3-pack-a-day habit. No patch, no gum, no crap. Once you get past the first 72 hours, you're over the physical need for nicotine, and the rest is all in your head. You've got a strong mind... you just need to WANT to do this.

I start and stop every year like an idiot ...The idea is not to tell a soul...so you dont have to listen to anyone if you relapse...just the fact that you posted this tells me that your mind is made up...now comes the physical part...if you break down and have 1....dont give up...try again.

If you break down ..dont let anyone see you smoke... the inconvenience of that alone will cut you down to only afew a day....unless your drinking..then you wont give a shit who sees you.

GOOD LUCK!

Your a strong willed SOB If I can dothis you can. You just got to decide that you hate that fuckin Cigarette like it just smacked you wife around, you want it out of your life or your gonna kill it, for me it was all about anger, sincee i have an anger problem I used it to my advantage. I actually left a full pack sitting right there on the shelf in my garage where I always smoked everytime I walked past it I said out loud to it "what the fuck are you lookin at you piece of shit!! fuck off!!!"

that lasted about 2 mnths and by then I started to forget they were there, then one day I was cleaning the garage and I was like oh ya these are still here and threw them out.

I also had a calander on the fridge with a pen tied to it, I crossed off every day I was succesful just before going to bed. Every day I looked forward to making that x on that calander, so when I thought about cheating I would think that my calader is gonna look like shit with an open day on it.

The only person I know that has REALLY quit forever, felt like he almost died from it (my uncle). Said he tried to quit and wanted to quit but never could pull it off.. one night in bed, he woke up and couldn't breathe at all.. there were some other details I don't recall, but he said that he really believed he was going to die right there - and eventually got his breath back, and never smoked again after that. Everyone else I can think of has failed and come back to it.

Sorry for the bad news, but good luck anyway. If you quit for good you have a stronger will than most people do. I like the idea of crossing off each day on a calendar that you didn't smoke on. Sounds like a good little helper to keep you going. It's crazy how powerful the addiction to smoking can be! Reminds me of Chris Rock in New Jack City when he's talking about the crack calling him. Luckily the smell of cigs makes me feel slightly sick, always has, so I will never touch the fuckin things. A blessing I suppose, since I will never have to deal with this addiction.
