OCS Prep Weekend

Got an email from my OSO a couple days ago about an OCS prep weekend. We are going up to Ft. McCoy at the end of april for a taste of what OCS will be like. We are doing everything from a PFT to the compass course to the O course. I'm stoked hopefully work wont give me any trouble getting that friday off. I'm actually looking forward to the last day where we have a "motivational run" at 0545 instead of chow

Good luck up there. All that really brings back memories.

Remember, a good officer knows how valuable a good NCO is. Listen to them.

Do you have any idea what branch you'll be going to?

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

+1 I've found that officers from OCS are much better at recognizing this. What prior military experience do you have? Most Army OCS folks have several years of enlisted experience, which helps them realize what is NCO business and what is officer business.

Even though it's a reserve post, Ft. McCoy is becoming a major training ground for this area. They have a HUGE NCOA there, just put in a bunch of ranges. They have a couple land nav courses. One is self correcting (posts have the grid coordinate on them), the other is a pain with some serious terrain and a few markers are only 50 or so meters apart.

Cool. I was aviation when I got out. So does this mean you have been accepted to flight school?

as soon as i take and pass the ASTB i'll get an aviation contract which means i'll go to flight school after the basic school. I have a ground contract right now but the Marines are in need of pilots and switching isnt a problem.

Congrats, man. That's very cool. Keep us updated on how that goes. Maybe I could get a ride in a Hornet sometime.
