Its not unheard of. The Toyota Corrola and Chevy Prism were the same car with different nameplates. As is the Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe.

Wrong side dear

It must be a marketing thing. Different tastes over here than there I guess. Interesting still.
Guess nothing is what it seems. Even with cars.

It's probably a political deal to allow Toyota to import a certain number of vehicles to the US to meet demand for Toyota Corollas. It helps balance out a trade deficit and keep the US & Japanesse governments happy.

Although the Corolla is made in CA and Canada, they still need to import a number of cars to meet demand.

I'm pretty sure in Japan there isn't an Infiniti line or even an Acura or Lexus line - they use the regular company names on those cars. For instance the Infiniti G35 coupe is the Nissan Skyline in Japan. The old school Skylines were sa-weeeet.

It should be called the Toyota Shitbox, or Crapolier

Actually, I've heard those companires are beginning to market under those names in the Japan Domestic Markets. The original purpose of the Acura/Infinit/Lexus badges were to 'fool' US comsumers in thinking the cars were a higher class and not associated with the anti-american import cars. Now that those badges have such are synonymous with quality and luxury, they are going to start marketing them like that.

As for to Toyota Cavalier, I've seen some Chevy Cav's in the US with TRD body kits on them

Japan uses other names like I think Lexus is marketed in Japan as Windom or is that Infinity?

Toyota Cavalier?!?

Yeah, so I work for Toyota, and I've never seen this stuff out here before...I can guarantee, though, that the entire powertrains are different, because there's no way that in Japan, they use a domestic engine that is a crapbox after 30k miles...Also, the Matrix and the Vibe used to be the same car because they both used to have the Toyota engine in it...Now it is very different b/c the Vibe has a PO(S)ntiac engine, radio, drivetrain, and others on it...Also, that website for Cavaliers?!? What the hell is that all about? Actually, by my house, there is a whole "J Body" club that rides around with their base Cavaliers and ground effects kits with neons on it with those huge ass metal spoilers that I refer to as "Bleachers," Like a soccer mom sits on Too Cool!!!

Yeah I just got back from Japan a few weeks ago. I thought I was seeing things when i saw this car. Now I know I really saw what I saw. It is true you don't see a lot of the Lexus, Infiniti, or Acura name over there but you do see some. On a side note, at the airport the jetways said Lexus in big letters on the side.
