1st Day at My New Job

Well, I just got back from my first day at PetsMart and I have to say, it really wasnt that bad.

I picked up alot of dead fish, and bagged hundreds of crickets, which was kind of gross at first. I have always hated crickets with a passion. I got over the picking up dead fish with my hands thing almost right away, it actually made me crave sushi pretty bad. Some kid even dared me to eat a dead rosie red that I had pulled out of a tank, if he had offered me money I would have done it.

I got asked two questions about tarantulas too. I felt like such a master at that point because I knew the scientific names and all kinds of "cool" details. We sell The T Keepers Guide, so I was able to recommend that to this woman whose son found some Aphonopelma and wanted to keep it. She even had me write down the sci name so her son could tell his class mates.

I even gained a little respect for how PetsMart cares for their animals. They will spare no expense to keep a sick animal alive. Even a hampster or mouse. And we are not allowed to sell rats or mice as feeders. The reptiles were actually cared for correctly and everything was healthy. I dont know about many of the other chain stores, but the manager of this small animal/fish dept is really intelligent and (believe it or not) knows what he is doing.

I have already become a fish addict. As soon as I get my apt Im getting a 55G tank and setting it up with some Molleys or Danios. My house will be even more of a zoo.

Anyway, it was (all in all) a pretty good day.

The gf used to work there, and she had nothing but good to say about them.

Scam- A guy she used to work with there filled his tanks with "dead" fish. They were reported dead anyway

A true story:

There was this one time. I picked up a dozen crickets for my iguana. I placed the plastic bag on the back seat of the car and drove home. After a few minutes I noticed a cricket roaming around the dash and I wondered… how did he get out?

And if he got out that means…… yep, the knot in the plastic bag came undone and I had 12 crickets jumping inside my car. I caught 4, killed a few and never found the rest. But for months I heard chirping inside my car.

I once dropped a box of 1,000 adult crickets in my BEDROOM. Almost all of them got away, I caught like maybe 100. The apt complex couldnt figure out where the hell all of the crickets suddenly came from. I ended up having to let two of my geckos go in my room because I couldnt stand the chirping. So I definatly know how you feel!

Our store doesnt allow the sale of any animal that might creep someone out. That includes tarantulas, scorpions, and snakes. It kinds sucks, but then, thats less animals that stupid people can buy and kill.

I donate a little something with every purchase there too. It's good for basic supplies.

actually nice, its really sad what stupid people do to animals even if they are too dumb to be conscious of what they are doing, particularly exotics where they may take special care

glad ya like the job
