trade in car

i am going to be buying a new car very soon and will be trading in my current car. the title is in my parents name, do i have to have my parents come in to the dealer (maybe there is more paperwork) or can i just have them sign the appropriate spot at home and just bring it to the dealer

I would think seeing as it's at a dealership you would need them to show up and sign in person. That way they have proof ya just didn't decide to steal the parents car and trade it in.

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin', and hook up with them later!!

Yeah, but they are a dealership, what the hell do they care if you stole your parents car as long as they make money on the deal.

A signature on a title is a release of ownership.

They do when you come back and sue their ass for stealing their car without permission because you took the car from someone who's name was NOT on the title.. People DO FORGE names and commit crimes now days.

I would ask the salesmanager before wasting any time.

That's right. All you need is a signature on the title to trade it in.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

As far as the dealer is concerned it's a legit sale. If someone later comes in and makes accusations, files a police report, etc. the guy who forged the signature would get in trouble.

I couln't see them turning down a sale for this, you could probably sign the thing with my name and get away with it.

I just don't think they'll read that far into it
