Got flat

All winter long I've been feeding two squirrels that have been living in my tree for about a year. They've brought me a lot of joy watching them hop from branch to branch, play around and try to hump each other all day. Cutest little things. About a month ago, apparently, one didn't make it across the street fast enough(flat). It broke my heart to know that the other one would be without his/her playmate. I buried him/her (squished real good so I couldn't tell) across the street from me. I've beem watching and feeding the lone fuzzball for about a month now. Then yesterday , another flat squirrel. There he/she lays, flat, at the end of my driveway. I'm emtionally crushed. Actually, I was thinking of starting a flat animal zoo in their honor. Ya know, little flat cages(wouldn't take much room), charge a flat fee to get in. You'd be able to see the whole zoo in about 10 second flat. If ya ran flat out maybe you could do it in 9 seconds. Oh well, rest in peace my fuzzy little buddies.

Sorry to hear Sloroll. I feel your pain, I am haunted by my driving instructors comments on squirrels..

Student : Mr Donahue, what are you to do when an squirrel crosses the street.
Mr Donahue : Run over it, you should always stay in your path of travel its the squirrel's fault. What are squirrels anyway but just rats that climb trees.

I'm sorry, Chuck, about your flat little friends. Hopefully you'll have regular squirrels move to help fill the void.

As for the flat zoo.... that's too f*ckin funny

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Hmmm......I feel you on the enjoyment factor of watching the the antics. When i grew up in Cicero we used to do the same thing! We had big old oak trees and the squirrels would literally come up on your porch and we would hand feed them nuts and walnuts. The coolest thing was watching them take a walnut and go bury it in the grass! My Dad would get up and have a cup of coffee on the porch on the weekends around 7am and just sit all morning watching the squirrels , drink coffee, read the paper, and smoke the cigs!

Yeah, I've seen some black squirrels in Michigan but never around here. Only red and grey around my place. Sooooo, if any of you know of any squirrels that need a new condo, there one big one vacant in my tree I'd be willing to lease.

Note: I do check references and credit.

That's too bad SloRoll. My dad has an ongoing "battle" with the local squirels. They continue to get into the birdfeeder and consume any remaining food. So he is constantly trying different approaches to keeping the squirels out. Half the fun is putting up a different "defense" (last time he hung the feeder from a chain) and watching the squirels come up with ways around it. He still will put food out for them, but they insist on getting at the birdfeed. Funny stuff.

Exactly how it started for me. I started putting out bird feeders and noticed that they would empty in about 2 days. Once I started watching where the seeds were going I caught the fuzzbals chowin' down on the birdfeed. So I put out a feeder just for them, easier to get to. Before long I'd see them hangin' off the sides of all the feeders and the birds would be on the ground pickin' up all the seeds from the mess they'd make. I guess everything worked out for everyone. Well that's all over now that they're on the big Flat Two tour in the sky.

Plus they need to be able to look both ways before crossing!

You're done. That is the topper. You sir are unfucking believable. We are all laughing our asses off at you. Keep on opening that mouth of yours. You cease to amaze me. Just when I think you can't out do yourself, you open your mouth again. It is actually amazing.

On a thread related note-

Hot sauce. Birds can't taste it for some reason and squirels, well they don't like it and will leave your feeders alone.

The black squirels that I am refering to are in Moline,IL. Somehow they were introfuced from Germany I think.

There were a pair in Arlington Heights, near the hospital, but I haven't seen them in a while.

I think Richmond (IL) has a bunch of black squirrels, too.

While cycling in the Black Forest they had this breed of squirrels that are rust coloured and pointed vulcan type ears. Unfortunately I flattened one of the little guys, the locals were pissed at me, since they are kind of protected. Cute little vulcan squirrels.

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.
