Skateboarding Meet

Who's down for this... I've never really skateboarded before and was interested in trying it.

Do you skate, Jay?

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Where? I'm always down. I've been hitting Wilson for old man AM weekends, my knee screams for days after. I'm fearing quadriceps tendonitis, if you've never skated then you need to log some street time in. Push around and learn to turn, skate flat ground before you can hit the roundwall or minis.

You're going to have to prove it at the meet.

Hey guys I got these directions to skateboarding, is it anything like this?

Stand on board - push with foot - be cool - attempt trick - fall and bust your knee - smoke weed.

Also, I've been told I'm too old to take up skateboarding, is this true?

Wilson and Lake Shore Drive, you'd be better off checking out Glenview's park, it's by the Zenith building off of Milwaukee. Take the street that goes behind Abt Electronics then past the basketball courts. If you need to buy a used setup I'm sure I could find one online for you from the several skate forums I'm on.

BTW, I'm pushing 40 and just started up again last October after a 13 year break. Never too old dude.

+ 1 on the never too old thing.
I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that I'm (now) the worst person to ever set foot on a board in the state of IL. If you think you can top that, meet us out sometime.

I go in the NW burbs during the week, and I stand around watching Sticky carve up Wilson on hungover weekends.

See you out there and whatnot.

The few times I've even stood on a skateboard, I've fallen over somehow.

I think it would be a fun hobby to take up in that regard.

The only thing I can tell you is that I'm a helluva lot easier to be around now that I'm wearing pads. Sure I look stupid. But... well I just don't mind looking stupid I guess!

As I'm sure Sticky can attest...it is one HELL of a good workout!

Nope, skate specific Pro-Tec. What's important is knee pads and wrist guards, but mainly for ramps and bowls. I never wore anything while street skating in my previous skate lives. You need to learn to ride on flat before anything, push and turn, real basic stuff.

U-dog likes to beat himself up but he's dropping into ramps and grinding coping, keeps his balance up for snowboarding.

from your earlier post, pot is optional. Not part of my routine but I would recommend it over alcohol as it doesn't render you balanceless....(yeah, that's a word)

Oh come on... the guy whose nickname is "STICKY" and had that kiwi in the garage with license plate "STICKY" ... I'd think some sticky greens were mandatory.

Go stand on some at a shop and see what you like. Sticky might have some better advice for you. All I know is that compared to the expense of motorcycling, skating is pretty much free. So go nuts!

yeah, a new complete set up is about $140-$150 for highend. You should hit up some friends and borrow some old stuff to learn though. If you get into it you'll figure out what you want.

Now THAT was some funny shit! Does the upgrade path then lead to Nash? Move to the new fangled twin-kick stuff only after completing an accreditted safety course?

Love it.

I'm having late 80's flashbacks as we speak. I haven't skated since Jr. High! Some buddies and I won the Lincoln Jr. High Student Council elections with a "Skate Slate 88'" campaign! We even beat the chicks which was pretty damn amazing.
