Personalized license plates

Is there some place online to research availability or does everyone just go down to the DMV with a list of possibilities and keep going until the hit or miss list is exhausted?

Don't go to the DMV! They are unable to approve/check possibilities. You have to fill out the application and mail it in.

KRUZ and KRUZER are taken.

I wish IL would let us mix numbers with letters, much more possibilities. And why is that when you buy a new car you can order your personal plates right away at the dealer, but for bikes you have to wait the 3 months for your random plates to come in then apply for your personal plates.

Jammin...

Stealers are full of crap...they can apply for personalized/vanity plates. It says so in the application. I imagine they do not want to deal with the added hassle of waiting and the paperwork.

I asked a dealer why they don't do it for me and he said that they stopped doing that service a while ago because people either kept changing their mind or they got submitted wrong. The dealers were tired of eating the costs so now they just get you a random plate and then you have to go pay additional $$ to get the plates you wanted in the first place.
