Will a motorcycle fit into a...

what's up guys! how's everyone's summer been so far. i have yet to go on a ride with you guys this year. i've just been so damn busy with work. last year was great riding with all of you.

well my question is....

will my R1 fit into an old dodge minivan. i live in the city and i have to take my bike to CCC to get my tire replaced. i got a flat tire last night on my way home from work. i know that a friend will lend me his minivan, but i'm just not too sure if it will fit. i'm just wondering if you guys have seen this with your own eyes and know for a fact that a motorcycle can fit into a minivan (an older boxier minivan, not one of those newer curvier minivans). i'm trying to find a pickup truck, but i'm having no luck with that.

please advise!!!

thanks guys!!!

i live in lincoln park, near halsted and fullerton. i'm not too sure what size nut the rear axel is. i'll have to do some research on that.

i would really appreciate the help.

i know the dealership opens up at 11am, so i would like to get there right when they open so they can do it as quickly as possible. i'm not too sure how long it takes to take a rear tire off, but i would say that i would like to meet around 9:30ish if that's cool with you. let me know!

just bring in the wheel, you'll save a bunch of money. All ya need wrench and couple of sockets... for the money you'd spend at the dealership to have them take it off your bike, you could buy a decent set of tools.

Koo. I am 15 minutes away from Lincoln Park. I am usually around that area anyway, as my friend lives on Fullerton and SouthPort.

OK do some research and let me know what to bring. I only have Handy stands but they should work just fine. I'll PM you my cell #, you can PM/Call me with your address/number.

FYI you can look up dimensions of all years, makes, and models of cars on the web. Then check the dimensions of your bike at yamaha's website and compare.

I imagine the height would be the biggest PITA. Even if it fits, you'd have to smush yourself into the van with the bike in order to get it tied down.

For the record - most sportbikes will fit into a minivan. Take off the mirrors, and let the air out of the tyres (not an issue in this case) and roll away.

Thanks again Chris for coming today. No wonder you where in a rush when you came into the shop. But at least now you know how to take your rear wheel off and on.

I used to do this all the time with a Ford Windstar. I can't say I recommend it (I finally broke down and bought a trailer).

Things I had to consider:

* The inside dimensions were never the problem, the van openings (rear door and side door and height) were always the problem.
* You'll need a good ramp
* You'll need help doing it
* I had to take off the windscreen and tip the bike to fit in the opening
* the seat anchors make great tie-downs - make sure you have something similar to secure it to.
* oil and gas in a confined space never make for a good "smell"
* In the event of a crash, I figured I was a "goner" - this is probably the best reason NOT to do this.

Good Luck. I hope it works out for you.

What's up Mao!!! yes the tire is back on the bike. i was going to call you yesterday, but i remember you saying that you were going to be busy all day, so i didn't want to bother you. but i have your stand and i can drop it off to you later today after work if that's ok. if you need it earlier, i can meet you at my apartment during my lunch if you'd like. i really appreciate all the help you've given me. i appreciate you lending me your stand. it helped A LOT!!! i need to pick me up one of those!!!

well thanks again Mao for all the help!!! I'll be sure to take you out for a beer or 2 or 3 or 4........

thanks clsb, for the input you've given me on the subject matter!!!

i was only out from riding for only 2 days!!! hahahahahah

Yeah I was busy all day yesterday with funeral duties. I don't need the stand back right away, this evening or tomorrow evening is fine. I was just curious if you were able to get it back on with your limited tools.
