the usb ports arent active on the directivos, and as such you cant add a network card. so all the cool stuff your conteplating you can toss out the window.

mythTV is a tivo like substitue that runs off a pc. has nothing to do with your question at all.

Not true Vcook, all that it takes is a hacked version of the latest 6.2 software. I put it on mine last week with a network usb adapter + tivowebplus, and I now have a pimped out Tivo, and I'm still adding more cool stuff. Its awesome to download such great quality shows to my laptop, schedule shows when I'm travelling, stream video, etc...Let me know if you wanna do this, I can point you in the right direction.

That is the one thing I hate about direct tv. I'm not going to hack into my hd tivo and lose the warrenty on the thing.

hell no, not on an HD tivo, too spendy if you fuck it up.

I'm tempted to try it on my standard one though. Probably do it on a replacement drive in case something goes wrong. Ok Rich, want to help!?? I've read some tutorials on how to hack the new software but it seems a tad involved.

I"d like to do this as well. but there seem to be soo many configs out there, and I have a hard time weeding out what would work for the HDVR2 directivo, what is old and outdated and what is current.

I did the drive swap a year or 2 ago and picked up a usb nic but never got further.

Got a walkthrough ?

Vcook, I went through the process and am more then willing to lend a hand. Just let me know how I can help, I have numerous websites and I've got all the necessary files and stuff to do it right. It's really not that involved, the instructions are pretty explicit. If you can hook a drive up to your computer and boot from a CD, ur on a good path. Let me know if you need the info and files from me, and I'll find someway to post em. Also, whether you can do it or not depends on what Tivo model you have. R10's dont work, post up and Ill let u know.

BTW I saw your above comment bout knowing tivos, just trying to give some friendly advice. Let me know what you need.

Never done it for an HDtivo, so I'm not sure how I can help. BTW, to do this you need at least a version 2 tivo w/ USB ports already in the back. Otherwise I can't help you much, but I'm willing to give advice if u got some questions

MythTV is a nice alternative to tivo. It's completely free, although you have to front the costs up front for the necessary hardware. Or as vcook clearly explained, it has nothing at all to do with your question. Sorry to waste your time.

You should create a new thread on HTPC (Home Theatre PC).
