Microsoft Streets & Trips 2005

It's unclear from the information on the web, but does MS Streets and Trips 2005 give you GPS Datum points for a specific location? I have any ancient GPS, and I have to manually load my waypoints in, the unit works fine, I am planning to get another unit (a toss up between the Magellan 700, Garmin 2610 0r 2620. any advice here would be greatly appreciated) but I'm still working with this ancient unit and the website I use to get GPS datum points from is always down (Wayhoo.com) So does anyone have MS Streets and Trips? Happy with it?

Sometimes goodbye is your second chance.

I like S&T for planning routes, not sure if you can use it on GPS, most GPS have their own software. Once you figure out what GPS unit you want, find out if it's capable of uploading S&T files. My Garmin V uses mapsourse software, which I can't stand.

Rick...I beleve the 2620 does not allow you to sync up with your CPU. Its marketed as an out of the box, no CPU necesssary GPS.

well this is what i am doing and i like it.

versus spending 3000+ on a car unit with a big enough screen.

i use my garmin GPS unit with all the garmin topo stuff for when i go hunting or looking for spots.

i also have my lap top in my van, which allows me to use the garmin GPS unit as a reciver, and my laptop to run what ever program i want.

i like WAYYYY better the delorm 2005 street altas, it has just about everything, not to mention audio and shows TURN BY TURN versus street atlas which is so fucken small youll get into a crash trying to drive and read that shit.

BUT SOMETIMES MS street altas does find certain address that deleorm cant.

but i have rarely came acrross that yet.

thats my vote to stay mobile in the field with a small hand unit.

and in the car with a lap top to have totol access to what ever you want, not to mention downloading other TOPO if your out in the feild doing what ever.

microsoft Streets and trips will use GPS points, but I dont know if they will give them off. I think it will. Also, MS Streets and trips used to have a Bluetooth GPS thingy that you could plug in to your laptop via USB and then it worked as a fully functional GPS using Microsoft Streets and trips as the maps

I believe I have this one at home Garmin MapSource MetroGuide North America v6.0

I have it loaded on laptop but have not hooked it to the Garmin yet. Will know in two weeks as planning a trip to Arkansas.

MS Streets & Trips won't show you active LAT/LONG info on the map or in the GPS Pane if you have your GPS hooked up to your computer, but you can pull up the current location info from the Find Panel where you can search by
Address|Place/Data|Lat/Long

tested with your home Rick and it shows Lat 42.1454, Long -88.1394

Freaking awesome Ernie, this Magellan 2000 that I purchased in 94 for $149 is right on the money And that's the info I wanted, I can use the Find Panel to get Lat/Long points and manual key them into my old GPS. Now do I purchase MS Street & Trips with the GPS Beacon so Diane can use it with her Laptop in the car, or just buy the version without the beacon? Hmmmmmm, just found the 2610 on Amazon for 629.00.

Thx all

Rick.

Not sure if this is a help, but try this link.

You can input an address, and recieve long., lat. locations.
Or vise versa.

terraserver

However it give no directions.

Still kind of a fun site.

Checkout the demographics link at the bottom of the linked site.
