Calling All African American members

Hi, I am writing a paper for my rhetoric class about why people laugh. This paper has led me to do a little research....

For any African American who has seen the Dave Chappelle skit where he is a Blind-Black-White Supremicist....Did you find this skit to be funny, if so why? If you found it offensive, why? Any other opinions you have would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A african/american is a person who was born in africa and got a citizenship in the US. Anyone born in the US is an American.

True, true...... I have and own the Chappelle DVD and watch show on a regular basis...

All though very tounge and cheek, his humor is based on real life instances....

The episode you are reffering too is very funny, but really hits home as a sattire..

I am a 35 year old white male, in my own home I would watch it, it is funny but it would make me uncomfortable watching it with black individuals that I didnt know.

I have watched with black friends that I have known for a long time and know they were comfortable with it.

It is all about respecting others and the culture, this shit really happens, people just choose to pretend it doesnt. Doesnt make it right... Hate when people play the race card to benefit a situation.... Nuff said... Hope you can use for home work...

Not that I don't agree with you butttttttttttttttt..... are you kidding me? Have you ever been to the south side? I'd love to take a trip down there with you so you can ask the black communities exactly what they say they are.

This coming from a guy that has a "100% American" tattoo on his back and I'm definitely not 100% american indian so..

Yes I have been to the south side west side what ever side. I was called a white nigger once by some little kid on a bicycle. And he tried to chase the car too. Man I dont know what that was all about. Besides that humanity has a long way to go yet to really get along and understand that we are all the same.

Well I was waiting for the responses before I replied. Seems you still need help with your paper.

I found the skit to be humorous. It was clearly satirical & not directed towards any group. I haven't seen many of his skits but the ones I have seen seem to point out the differences in cultures. He just happens to use these differences in a comedic(word?) setting. But if you really think about it, most of those differences are true. Not to point out perceived negative attributes but the way things really are.

That particular skit to me points out the ignorance of racism. Here you have the most celebrated KKK leader being followed by all these people & they aren't aware he's actually black. Neither is he. Pretty funny to me!

a lot of his audience is black. And they keep on showing up to his shows. I would prob ask black people you work with or at school what they thought about that episode. All the black people i know love his show and already own the dvd.

Another priceless episode was the white family called N......

An African American, Black, Bru, etc. Responds...

Short Version (for Underdog ):
I didn't die laughing at the skit but thought it was clever. It mocked the KKK in a clever way. To me it showed that ignorance is still bliss for a lot of people.

Edit: You guys sure are quick to talk about what's up with Blacks. That'll always be my CLSB humor. Represent y'all!

I am personally tired of ANYBODY prefacing the fact that they are American with their ethnicity. I believe it divides us as a people. And for those of you who don't agree, flame on. I like nickf4i's tattoo about being 100% American. Sorry I didn't think of that myself.

No flame Phil, but hey to not basterdize the thread I'll refrain from a novel. Still, like it or not history is history. And if you're not going to find out facts about it, then it's nothing to discuss.

Loki, I am a strong believer in heeding the leasons that history can teach us. Believe me, I want equality for everyone, I have a personal interest in that regard.

I think it's funny to mock racisim. I also think it's funny to mock black people who are unaware of themselves. Obviously if the skit was a real situation, it would be more sad than funny, but still funny.

Also, I don't mind being called African American, it's better than some other names I've been called. But, I hate when some group comes up with a new box to put us in, and then news reporters say "Blacks now want to be called blah blah blah".

I hope, for the sake of my girls, that things will continue to get better.
