The live video is pretty amazing - especially the magnesium wheel grinding away with huge trailing sparks. That pilot must've crapped himself.

They said on the news that all the passengers got to watch it on little tvs on the seatback in front of them. That had to be freaky!

That is the pilot I hope to have at the helm of every flight I'm ever on again......That guy did an awesome job.

That was pretty freaky. But CNN is wrong... The Airbus A320 can't dump fuel.

I had a gear failure once on a Cessna 337. It's a twin engined, twin tailed, push-pull, high wing airplane. It's the same as the O-2 that can be seen in the movie BAT21. I had to fly around for 2 hours to burn most of the fuel before I tried to land. The landing, although very exciting was pretty much a non-event. I still have the busted gear doors hanging on the wall in my garage.

Mixmasters (err Skymasters are way cool!) Which gear failed? the Mains or the nose?

Look, I can appreciate this. I was young too, I felt just like you. Hated authority, hated all my bosses, thought they were full of shit. Look, it's like they say, if you're not a rebel by the age of 20, you got no heart, but if you haven't turned establishment by 30, you've got no brains. Because there are no story-book romances, no fairy-tale endings. So before you run out and change the world, ask yourself, "What do you really want?"

Both. Backup failed also. System sucks, IMHO.
