I wanna be a bowlin pimp

This thread is for you, Labdog (Mr. 300) and others...

anybody got suggestions for where to get gear?

I need to select a ball, get it drilled, blah blah blah.

Suggestions for type? Counterweighted so it does the cool spin...

Help!

go to Elk Grove bowl and talk to the guy in the pro shop there. He's the man from what I hear. I got my ball (the one that was stolen) from him and he seemed to know what he was doing.

My name is JB, people call me JB

Ernie you can pretty much go to any pro-shop in an alley that has a reputable owner to assist you. As far as counterweight goes its all in the pin dot drilling my friend. If you plan on crossing out 8 to cut 17 then i would suggest a ball with an aggressive bite. Do you plan on wood or synthetic boards? If you do get an overly aggressive ball i would suggest a less over pin drill because in a dryer conditioned lane you will be fighting atleast 22 cross on a brook shot!

I would highly recommend you talk to the Alley in Hoffman Estates on Higgins just past Roselle rd (i think thats the street). He is really good. Typically i see Steve Jarros for my work but since he is more on the tour now he does not personally drill. Either way --- Good Luck

AND keep an eye out for the Labdog's CLSB BOWLING NIGHT this fall/winter!

Big Ern!

I think it's a given that you're going to need to rock it Ernie McCracken style. I mean seriously.

Too lazy to GIS for the ball with the rose in it - but I know you can do it.

LOVE that pic Sean!

Easy---The lanes have numerous boards going accross. 1/4 way down the alley they have arrows spaced out on boards.

On the approach there are 2 set of dots. Usually for the 3 step and the 5 step.

When reading boards you if you are a righty you start at the right gutter and the first board is obviously #1 board.

Personally when i bowled religiously i would take a 5 step approach at Center 3 dot throw the ball out to the 5 board and see how it reacted to the amount of oil. If i came in high i would stand 1 board left. Still high i would move my line 1 board right to the #4 etc. Speed & rotation are a constant. Adjustments to the alley are key. If the alley was VERY dry using center and 5 the ball would cross over in front of the head pin and surely hit the brook (brooklyn) gutter. Then i would move far left dot throw far right board #2 and see where the ball was. If i am still high i would change to a less reactive/harder ball. Make sense now?

When she was pregnant with Haley 4 years ago i layed down the ball and have not picked it up ONCE! God i miss bowling! Then again i dont miss the $130 bucks a week!

oh yeah, one more thing.

dear bowling gods,

where the hell to bowl for cheap? like you say, this $hit does add up fast.

I know most places have a $.99/game time, but that's usually not until after 9:30pm or 10pm. some places have cosmic bowling, etc., etc.

where do you go for inexpensive recreational bowling time?

I AM a bowling pimp . I play on a Thursday night league at poplar creek bowl in Hoffman Estates. Bunch of really great players on this league. Anyway, since you currently suck for lack of a better term, a $200 snazzy ball isn't going to do anything for your game. I would suggest going for some of the mid range balls...something that will help you learn to throw a proper hook (none of that two finger BS). You can get a nice reactive ball for around 100 bucks. Go to your local proshop and have him explain a little bit and perhaps have him watch you throw a couple frames. It'll take a while for you to get the feeling of a finger tipped ball and all that jazz, but any monkey can pick it up pretty quickly.

Anyway, speaking of the trifecta suggestion....I was just looking at that ball myself. Storm is notorious for having strong backend movement. I've also been considering columbias bully, power drive, epx T1 (although I want to wait it out).

Check out ballreviews.com...

If you guys really want to setup a bowling night I know a place that has Unlimited games for 10$ on Sunday's and league is every other Sunday. This Sunday should be a no league day so it would be good.

I will be going, but I will start a thread for times and directions if you all want to meet.
I got a 221 with a 10lbs houseball at this place like 3 weeks ago, The special balls probably have some worth but if you don't plan on going everyday to practice a houseball works just fine.

Let me know I go every Sunday with my friend Little B and we are always looking for people to bowl and drink with.
