Talking Comedic Monologue

My wife has an audition in a couple weeks and she needs to prepare a 2 minute comedic monologue. She has no Idea where to start. Anyone have any experience with this type of thing? I have been on this board long enough to know that we have a fair share of comedians here .

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Corey

Depending what the monologue theme is do something serious/funny twist.

How about the pic of that crocodile thats going around in the water (SUPPOSEDLY) in Louisiana. The spin could be we all know its a fake but it sure scared the cops into walmart and the looters into the commercial stores as well as FEMA wanting confirmation before they go in etc.

Something different with a spin and not the regular hashed out bashing. You know what i mean right?

Just an opinion. I am not funny nor do i claim to be but i do enjoy a funny comedian!

There's a theater store in Lincoln Park called Act One (just found out the name changed to The Sililoquy Bookstore), she can get some monologue books over there. I'd loan mine out but by the time I find them, the audition would probably be over . But I'll give it a shot and see if I can find it, I'll let ya' know.

BTW for whom or where is auditioning at?

God, I miss doin' theater .

Exactly . I do want it to be something original, instead of the same old tired jokes.

I will give her the info on that store and thanks for the link LadyD.

Keep the suggestions coming.

Telling us what the audition is for would be a good start.

Obviously, I have no idea where to start either.

The audition is for a play called "The Reel Life" a comedic spoof on actors and showbusiness in general.

No problem! Have her go down there and peruse some of the literature, lot's of good info in the store. I used to spend hours there lookin' through all the books and possible material when I was still doin' theater.

I was really lucky though 'cause I had a very good resource to fall back on, my Theater instructor was the bomb and she had so much material that I rarely had to buy anything. Too bad she moved to California when she retired .

Any hoots, enough of me reminiscing, whatever she decides to use, just make sure it flows and it feels natural and comfortable to her. It's all gravy after that. Practicing in front of a mirror always helps and of course for family is always great.

Good luck to her and the search and let us know how it goes.
