George Carlin, Rant on New Orleans

"Been sitting here with my ass in a wad, wanting to speak out about the bullshit going on in New Orleans. For the people of New Orleans... First we would like to say, Sorry for your loss. With that said, Let's go through a few hurricane rules: (Unlike an earthquake, we know it's coming)

#1. A mandatory evacuation means just that...Get the hell out.
Don't blame the Government after they tell you to go. If they hadn't said anything, I can see the argument. They said get out... if you didn't, it's your fault, not theirs. (We don't want to hear it, even if you don't have a car, you can get out.)

#2. If there is an emergency, stock up on water and non-perishables. If you didn't do this, it's not the Government's fault you're starving.

#2a. If you run out of food and water, find a store that has some.
(Remember, shoes, TV's, DVD's and CD's are not edible. Leave them alone.)

#2b. If the local store has been looted of food or water, leave your
neighbor's TV and stereo alone. (See #2a) They worked hard to get their stuff. Just because they were smart enough to leave during a mandatory evacuation, doesn't give you the right to take their stuff...it's theirs, not yours.

#3. If someone comes in to help you, don't shoot at them and then complain no one is helping you. I'm not getting shot to help save some dumbass who didn't leave when told to do so.

#4. If you are in your house that is completely under water, your belongings are probably too far gone for anyone to want them. If someone does want them, let them have them and hopefully they'll die in the filth. Just leave!
(It's New Orleans, find a voodoo warrior and put a curse on them.)

#5. My tax money should not pay to rebuild a 2 million dollar house, a
sports stadium or a floating casino. Also, my tax money shouldn't go to rebuild a city that is under sea level. You wouldn't build your house on quicksand would you? You want to live below sea-level, do your country some good and join the Navy.

#6. Regardless of what the Poverty Pimps Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton want you to believe, The US Government didn't create the Hurricane as a way to eradicate the black people of New Orleans; (Neither did Russia as a way to destroy America). The US Government didn't cause global warming that caused the hurricane (We've been coming out of an ice age for over a million years).

#7. The government isn't responsible for giving you anything. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave, but you gotta work for what you want. McDonalds and Wal-Mart are always hiring, get a damn job and stop spooning off the people who are actually working for a living.

President Kennedy said it best..."Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

Thank you for allowing me to rant.

Whenever I get something like this emailed to me, I always check out Snopes. I'm still waiting for them to research another one I got last week. It must be new because I couldn't find it on there.

Oh yeah, I forget the condition of the media and howl they basically showed the b.s. that was happening which was a small percentage and NOT THE PEOPLE THAT ACTUALLY WERE DYING AND STARVING THOUGH THEY WERE DOING THE RIGHT THING. All this would be kool if it was the entire story. Oh and a majority of it. Why don't you people ever comment on the things that aren't as popular. Like, people doing what they were told. People being called looters when they were taking food and water and not t.v.'s? Where are you threads then?

I guess those people that did do what they were told by evacuating to the stadium should've just stayed quiet and basically died properly?! You people kill me. You're media conditioned and I'm not afraid to say it. Remember, there were looters and then refugees. Seems to me, most can't tell the difference. Last I checked FEMA is suppose to be a rescue thing. And there are suppose to help victims. Sorry if that government part of our nation f*cked things up. Still, let's pretend they didn't have to respond quickly so that we can all comment on the idiots that were stealing t.v.'s and the like.

Let's see what else the media has got to report that is the ONLY thing happening....I need more conditioning.

EDIT

Oh, jeez Loki please tell me you feel sorry for those people that were looting TV's and stereos from stores. Please tell me that you want to spend your tax money helping them out.

Also, check out the stats to the latest surveys of victims. SOO many of them stayed even though they could have left. Do you feel sorry for them, too?

Tell me you feel sorry and blame the government for those people who were shooting at the rescue helicopters. Tell me that you blame Bush for those people that looted neighboring homes.

There is an article detailing how the local government spent money that was supposed to go to reinforcing the levees years ago on other projects. Mayor Nagin, he's a moron that needs to be kicked out of office.

See, this is the problem. FEMA is NOT and was NOT designed to be a first response agency. You are comparing apples to oranges. When you dial 911, does FEMA come to your door step? When the helicopters were evacuating the refugees, was there a FEMA sticker on the side of the helicopter? The problem is that some have blame and responsibility ass-backward. The order of blame is as follows:

1. Yourself (take responsibility for your actions)
2. Your neighborhood (when I was a kid, neighbors helped each other)
3. The City
4. The State (this is why we have a National Guard)
oh, and then the...
5. Federal Government

Clarification

Chills, please tell me you know howl to read. Please tell me you don't take peoples words and change them all around to make a point. Please tell me that you can look at things and get it.

I never typed in any fashion I support those damn looters man. I typed howl the media has shown, for the most part, one side to the victims. The same side that's been joked and comment about. I don't have any sorrow in my heart for those idiots taking advantage of a horrible situation.

What I hit upon was howl you don't hear about the people that did leave and died in some stupid stadium waiting on help that they were told would be there. Where are the threads on that Chill? Why don't you get that going?

And put up your stats of all the people that left. Where is that? Your boy Bush sitting on them? Wait, he did admit howl the government screwed up didn't he? Oh lets not mention that. Too many Bush supporters. Even though I didn't bring that equation into it, you did. FEMA is expected to be there to help all people in a natural disaster. What do you think the money they get goes towards?!

As far as evacuees, I'm sure in your stats it shows howl a lot of them couldn't leave. Haven't we been over this in another famous thread?! I don't know too many people without cars and no way to get to the ONE designated place that can outrun a hurricane. You're the weatherman, howl fast was that hurricane? I doubt it was moving 20mph.

Again, please tell me you see what I'm talking about and not what you want to see.

Everybody needs the light

I want you guys to tell me what should've happened. I think that'll clear up a lot. Forget the people. Tell me what each branch of government from municipal on up should've done and then tell me if that truly happened. We have a lot of disaster experts here on motorcycles. So I want to know. Because I'm like you all, it's very easy to give an opinion.

I know how to read... sorta. I do feel for all those that couldn't get out but tried. I feel for those that got stuck in the dome and all the bureaucratic nonsense that went on. But I stand by my belief that the federal government is the least at fault. It was the local goverment and the people that could have made a difference early on.

As for speed, I just checked the NHC archives and Katrina was moving an average of 7 mph during her lifetime. That's pretty slow by Hurricane standards. Usually the storms move between 12-14 mph, and the fast ones move up around 20 mph, and the really slow ones around 2 mph.

Reviewing the graphics archive and strike tables it shows that the forecasted track changed dramatically on August 26th. At 5am that day the forecast point of landfall was to be around Destin, FL. By 11pm that night the POL changed to New Orleans, LA. That's a very large shift to the west in a short time frame. So from the afternoon of the 26th everyone KNEW that Katrina was going to impact NO in some form or another.

Common sense says that if I live in a bowl below sea level and there's a hurricane headed toward me, I'm going to leave. Even if its Category I, you leave. Its not just the wind, its the rain, the storm surge, the thunderstorms, and the 100's of tornadoes that Hurricanes spawn.

I do see what you are talking about, Loki. I do have sympathy for some of the victims, but not for all of them.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

this whole thread after the 1st post is a heaping pile of shit, from what YOU/ME should go find out for ourselves from ground level, to the tops of the written protocols.

everyone has an opinion, and everyone can only read or watch what was going on since none of us where there.

why didn't we hear about all the good people? CAUSE they were doing what was right! why did we hear so much about crime? cause there were doing BAD shit! while people are trying to help and people trying to leave etc.

this whole thread has turned into another shit storm of lokitrina!

dude give it a rest man, go find some human other then a black man that's up for death role, and allow the state for us to drag him behind a pick up truck, fuck ill drive is this calms you on this continuing rant of media/racial/hatred of all things your cant control.

I think it's crap. I think we need to help people. There are those who will exploit the help, of course, this is natural. But do we close ourselves off then? I say no, because, no matter who will hurt the system, some need it. And for me, and my money, that's enough justification.
