Went down Sat evening in Rush hour traffic

I went down Sat evening at about 15MPH. Was west bound on I94 at the far right lane, bumper to bumper rush hour traffic. My lane turned into an exit only lane, so I had to make a left lane change. Saw an open spot about 1.5 car lengths and took it. The moment I entered the lane the van in front of me slammed on his brakes. Instinctively, I grabbed a fist and a foot full of braks.

What happened next occurred in a blink of an eye. All I remember was my right shoulder hitting the road followed by my head. EndlessRR, was behind me still on far right lane and he said I locked my rear brake, rear ended the van and then went down. Van never stopped, not sure if he felt me or not. Like a moron, I stood right back up feeling no pain thinking all is good.

An hour later, I felt some pain in my right collar bone. Reached over and felt a bump. Damn it, fractured my collar bone. My brother drove me to the ER where I got x-rays and a shot of something for the pain. ER doc did not want to pop the bone back in place. I go back Tuesday for Ortho surgeon to look at it. Was told surgery is quite rare for fractured collar bone. Doc said my collar bone is laying one on top of another, which is why there is a bump.

Wear your gear people. I had on a leather jacket with armor, an icon back protector, sidi boots and jeans with long johns. No road rash whatsoever and surprisingly very little pain 12+ hours later. They gave me Tylenol with codeine but I have yet to take it. Without a helmet, my face would have looked like pizza.

All in all I did a very stupid thing, unsafe lane change. A tad bit of bad luck with the van slamming on his breaks but I take 99.99% if not all of the blame. Damage to the bike is mostly the front and a bit of rash on the right fairing. Frame sliders work.

Glad to see that you are ok. Broken collar bones suck. You have wear a sling for 6 weeks.

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin', and hook up with them later!!

Yeah the sling sucks. The lane change is unsafe because I should have anticipated the van braking. This is stuff I proabably could have avoided. That and I am the type of person to own up to my mistakes.

Me and my friend was mountain biking 2.5 weeks ago and he crashed and broke his collar bone. Don't want to scare you, but that friend of mine is still in pain up to this moment. He told me that motrin is better for the pain.
Heal up quick.

Glad to hear you're okay, bro. Get lots of rest and start looking on eBay for parts. I'm really glad to hear that the car behind you didn't keep going.

i broke my clavical once. they may reposition it. and let it heal, but it is a bone you dont use, so they usually wont do surgery. the bone is very small and hard to pin, brace or get a screw into. mine has been broken for 15 years. no problems at all. and its a good coversation piece. good luck with the healing though.

Hi Mao, glad you OK.
I had broken collar bone when I was 12 (Poland) in the middle of summer.
They put mi in the cast for 2 weeks, from neck to my belly button.
Heal quick. Good luck.

I broke mine last year......when you go to the doc, ask for the figure 8 brace, works better than a sling, trust me.

And forget motrin and all that.......Hydrocodone AKA Vicodan works the best!

Glad to hear you are relatively ok. Bone will heal before too long. You might have a bump there forever but it should not prevent you from leaving life normaly. My little brother broke his when he was about 12, now at 29 he does not even remembers it and the bump is still there. He lifts weight with it with out any problems.

That deserves at least few points. You are already safer rider by simply figuring out and admiting to your self what you could have done better.

Heal up, fix up the bike and get ready to ride next year.

IMO, it was from fatigue. Long ride, long ass traffic on 290, i almost re-ended a Bimmer due to speeding up to change lanes, luckily i got on the brakes just in time. Honestly, i still have a picture in my head of the accident, first time i've had anyone go down in front of me, freaked me out a bit but i don't think i panicked in anyway. Good thing was that a cager behind me stopped and helped me pick the bike up, and for those that know me, you know damn well my midget ass couldn't pick that bike up if my life depended on it. Overall, it could have been worse, and on top of that, Mao is lucky the cager he hit didn't stop, otherwise he'd have more headaches. Glad to see your ok and not much damage, now get on E-bay and fix yo shit!!
