Yay for burglars!

My apartment got broken into last night while I was sitting in our living room watching TV. They went through MY bedroom window and made off with about $2000 worth of shit. Cops say they probably won't be able to catch the fuckers who did it. Fun shit eh?

Man that sucks dude, sorry to hear it.

I had a New Year's Eve party once where 2 of my guests were held up at gun point on my back porch.

Sticky: Yeah getting held up at gunpoint sucks. Do you live in Cabrini Green?

Crazy: Cops didn't care to take fingerprints. There were big, clear footprints on my pillow and my bed where the fucknut stepped through the window. At least it gave me a good reason to change my sheets eh?

Now THAT's just plain balls, residential burglary at night. I'm glad it didn't turn into something worse.

I hope you have renter's coverage. You're on the ground floor, right? I strongly suggest looking into a security system. And if you keep your window open, put a bar or something above the window sash to keep anyone from opening it wide enough to get in.

Had a similar situation when I was 13... somebody(s) broke into our house in Buffalo Grove while my grandmother was sleeping... They had hauled the TV, stereo, etc. out into our driveway - apparently we came home before they could load everything up and haul it away.

Generally, if you apply and pay a deposit, you should be covered.

True, usually you just walk in and make a payment and they take care of the rest later.

If you exchanged money with the agent, check the receipt to see if there may be conditional coverage. If they have been dragging their feet, call the home office. If that doesn't work, try the state DOI.

so what got stolen?

it's most likely someone that knows you that did this. most crooks don't have the balls to go into a place that they know nothing about...whether or not there's a tenant that's got guns lying around to blow their kneecaps off or something. keep an eye on the neighbors. if you usually see them and all of a sudden they're going out of their way to avoid you then be suspicious...

hell...knock on their doors and just warn them that you were hit and that they should keep an eye out and see if they react properly...

Get a dog dude. My dog would've notified me and I would've notified my 9mm beretta. 9mm Beretta notifies burglar he's not welcome in my home.

Yeah... I told my neighbors and stuff about the break-in... I hope it wasn't someone I know... because I'll be pissed

Crazy: Yeah dogs don't go well in the city unfortunately. A lotta people have them but I think it's mean. After all that shit I said about hating guns... I honestly would feel a whole hell of a lot safer if I had a firearm in the house. Unfortunately it's illegal in the city and it'd take me a few months on the range and whatnot to be comfortable with one. *sigh*

I see your point about the dog. I was just trying to make you feel better anyway. Guns are nice to have around but remember...that guy could've had one too. Sometimes it's better to just let things go than risk a shoot out in you're apartment. You still got your life this way. I always kept a gun anyway when I lived in the city and btw a shotgun is legal. I just figure it's my constitutional right and Daley wasn't going to take it away no matter what stupid laws he got passed.

Cell phone, $1500 watch, palm pilot, credit cards, some cash. All uninsured.

I did not see them. I might have heard them but thought it was my roommates walking around.

I don't know how they couldn't have known I was there... I was in the next room watching TV.

how well do you know your room mates?

(remember what i told you at that bar? never trust anyone!)

those are petty items, and for you being home, and ROOMATES being home, lights comming from other rooms and they are gonna break in?

also too, was the window unlocked?, open?
did they break it?, jimmy it?

as far as guns, just give me a buzz after you get 1, or if you need me to give you tips on fitting 1 up to your hand.

I know. I've been thinking the same thing dude. One of my roommates is getting the 5th degree from me when I get home.

Window was cracked because our thermostat was going nuts and it was like 100 degrees in the apartment. The funny thing is that the only way to get to the window is this little passageway in between the apartments that I didn't even know about until a month after I lived there. They just opened it right up.

You said there was boot marks?

If so don't mention nothing to any of your room mates.

Did YOU take picks of the boot marks,? If so match them agasint any boots your roommates have!

Also too does your roommates have any male friends that come over a lot to almost every few days.
If so, since its winter, who ever it was is STILL wearing these boots.

Look for tread patterns to be similar and shoe size and width.

Start asking everyone to take there shoes off when they come in so the place doesn't get dirty.
And then SNOOP.

Plus you never answered how well do you know these guys (room mates and how many are they)?

NEVER leave a first floor window open at night in the city!

the more you protect yourself the less you are a victim.
since they stolen your watch, go to the CLOSEST pawn shops right around your area and see if they took 1 in.
the guy will dump it fast.
the cell phone has already been swiped clean already and probably sold to some cell phone guy that takes stolen ones.

I'm gonna check pawn shops tonite for my watch. Good idea though... thanks...

I took pics of the boot marks... and took my sheets off so they're sitting there. I know 2 of my roommates very well but the 3rd is kind of shady. Like I said he will get the 5th degree.

I will be snooping too. Blahhhhh...

Its best to stay in the shadows quite like a mouse and watch and observe to find information that helps your case, rather then to accuse and give them time and or a change in there habit or cover up.

So I suggest not saying nothing to let them be aware of anything, then once you get enough or cant get enough, make the choice of what to do.

Mmmm good call. Call me 'Sleuth Stydie'. I'll do some detective work when I get home.

Oh the other hand... maybe I should just go around looking for shady people in my neighborhood and shaking them down for information ... I think I'm indimidating enough.
