Need to suck some time

Yeah my project just stalled big time... I literally have nothing to do. Just trying to suck some time and bolster my reputation as a post whore. That's all

I don't really know. Evidently Champ and Crazy have a post-whore contest going ... I guess it's kind of like a rap sheet in the 'hood... the longer your rap sheet the more respect you get... except here the super-posters have the respect type thing

I dunno

Noooooo actually not. You'd be surprised how little bandwidth these messages take up. That's why there's a limit of only posting a message every 30 seconds. Now if 50,000 people all got on at once and started posting messages over and over that MIGHT slow it down... but otherwise no.

That's not entirely true. It uses up disk space and creates additional records in the database that must be searched/queried/etc., along with the additional bandwidth.

Is it significant? Well, probably only in the sense that it establishes wasteful habits which when spread across several million users over the entire network do have an impact.

Otherwise, compared to live audio or video feeds or even pics, it is pretty negligible.

By comparison, the avatars take up more space than any single post I've seen.

Correcto mundo.

Dave is right. Although the one thing about postingthat does slow it down is when everyone tries to do something at once. Like hit reply or submit at the same time. That slows the processing down.

ok, i did the math. I average 1.88 posts per day....and have 422 posts so far.

3500-422=3078 posts till i hit the 3500 mark.

at 1.88 posts per day, it would take me 3078/1.88= 1637.234 days to reach 3500 posts.

1637.234 days/365 days per year = 4.4856 years

so in 4.4856 years i will reach 3,500 posts (as long as i stick to my average of 1.88 posts per days)!

I'm IMPRESSED. I took 3 years of math in college and if I see numbers and operators my brain just turns to mush.

I though Lupi was the only one who did .88 posts!

Since you can't measure fractional posts, you should probably be using average time between posts as your variable. You have a problem with your units.
