digital camera for x-mas

My wife wants a new dig cam for x-mas. I have some $125 kodak which is not the best so would like to upgrade.

what is the hottest dig cam for under $350?

I'm not the most knowledgable when it comes to photographic equipment, but I was given this camera for my birthday a few months ago. I absolutely love it. Toss a 1GB card in it and you're ready to rock and roll.

I wanted something small for backpacking/mountaineering. This camera is very small and takes great photos and video. Its also real easy to use and in your price range.

Forgot to put the model in: Canon SD300

Canon +1. Just upgraded from powershot a80 to powershot a610.

BTW, powershot a80 and lots of extras are on sale on ebay. Since in wrong forum - no link, email if interested.

I purchased a Canon A520 three weeks ago and absolutely love it. It's VERY easy to use and takes great pictures. Cheap, too!

Can't go wrong with a Canon. A optical zoom is also a plus for someone who want to get in close without being on top of your subject.

You'll never go wrong here --> http://www.buydig.com/shop/home.aspx <-- for best prices!

For some great info, go here --> http://www.dpreview.com/ <-- and this isn't terrible for info either --> http://www.dcresource.com/

Say Cheeeeeessseeee

I play with photography. Here is a good website overall for info on all cameras: http://www.dpreview.com/

The digital camera I play with is Konica Minolta DiMage Z2 by Minolta. It doesn't have Image Stablization (less blur if you slightly move) but it takes great pics and video w/sound!

I do love Canon's for digital but for the price it was a steal. They are now at Z6. I paid 399.99 for it (could've done better if I wasn't rushing) and the Z6 is the same price! A little over your price but hey, consider it. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/spec...a_dimagez6.asp

Below, some photos I have taken with the Z2.

+1 on dpreview. By far it's the best site I've found for comparisons and very clear tests. Right now I think Nikon is the hands down leader, especially when it comes down to the compact cameras. Go with one of the Coolpix cameras you can find on DPREVIEW, they also scope out the best and worst prices for you. My suggestion is the S3 or P2 from Nikon...

I've got the Panasonic DMC-FZ30, which might be more than what you're looking for, but it takes nice shots!
