bad bad BAD McDonalds

Good Morning America just interviewed a mother that is instigating a lawsuit against McDonalds for making her kid obese (and children all over the world)

oh brother I'm just sitting here wondering how she can go on TV and blame a corporation for her bad parenting skills.

Sick and fat children sue McDonalds

Staff Report
WASHINGTON: Lawyers in New York have filed a class action suit against the fast food giant McDonalds on behalf of some of the city’s children who have suffered serious health problems as a result of eating the high fat, high calorie food served by the international chain.
The health problems listed in the suit include diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.
McDonald has over nearly two dozen outlets in Pakistan and their number appears to be multiplying. Most of the customers are children, as elsewhere in the world.
In a Manhattan federal court in Manhattan Wednesday, lawyer Samuel Hirsch argued that the fast-food chain had created a national epidemic of fat children because of the high fat, sugar and cholesterol content of the food it served. He described the McDonalds fare as “a very insipid, toxic kind of thing’” if eaten with any regularity by children and youngsters.
One of the plaintiffs is a child from the city’s Bronx district who has eaten every single meal for the last three years at McDonalds. He lives in a shelter for the homeless. Anther boy from Staten Island, a teenager, who at three to four times a week at the fast food chain resultantly now weighs 278 pounds. He is five feet four inches tall.
McDonalds lawyer Brad Lerman called the suit a frivolous attempt to cash in on the food giant, “the kind of lawsuit that shouldn’t be in court.’” He said, according to Associated Press, “People don’t go to sleep thin and wake up obese.
The understanding and comprehension of what hamburgers and french fries do has been with us for a long, long time.” He asked the court to dismiss the suit. He said McDonalds had never misled customers about the food it served.

You mean this stuff is bad for us?

Bad parenting...4 year olds don't walk to the counter and order that stuff themselves! It's a parent's job to realize that a cheeseburger, fries and 44 ounce Coke (not diet) is NOT a healthy Saturday stop at lunch.

Go to Subway down the street. Sweet onion teriaki chicken

I'm pretty sure the lawyer for this woman is getting paid NOW, not 'when we get you some money' (what's that called?) Lawyers don't think this crap up.

I hope this makes it to court so the judge can give her a little 'advice'

Now where did I see the McDonald's food is healthy and nutritious and builds strong bones sign?

If this works I'm heading over to Carson's Ribs for a pig out and having Ely's Cheesecake for dessert while on the cell phone to my lawyer!

Maybe sue Naperville after the Ribfest too!:-

I wouldn't be supprised if they were only trying to get McDonalds to settle out of court inorder to prevent the media coverage. Fast and easy money. But.... if McD's doesn't, I hope it gets thrownout. this is pure stupidity.

I'm so sick of people not owning up to personal responsibillity, it's ridiculous. STOP WHINING! Perhaps is more of these would get thrown out, less would be perpetuated. On an up note though, maybe these people will start having prepubescent heart disease and thus ceasing the pissing in the gene pool.

"Pro bono" is "without compensation". You're thinking of "contingency" (we get paid IF we win).

Whoever brought this suit needs to have the s*hit slapped out of them. F*cking idiots.

no kidding, but on the slim chance that she does win, how do we cash in too? I've eaten tons of McDonalds food over the past 3 decades. I think I'll have to also blame them for my arthritis, my hair turning gray and the reason why I need glasses to see. None of these things happened until after I started eating McDonalds

McDonalds is constantly being sued for BS like this. The only ground these people have to stand on are the Tobacco lawsuits. When you start the think about it.... there are amazing similarities between fast food and Tobacco.

However....

I don't care how good you think McDonalds is... it's not any more addictive than normal food. IF you are a food adict... don't blame McDonalds.

Hey... they would have just gone down the street and had some Subway sandwhiches and lost all the weight like Jarad

There's going to be a lot of Polish all-you-can-eat places on the NW side out of business once my lawyer gets through with them!!

Actually McDonalds has lawsuits filed against them all the time. I know a lawyer who works for McDonalds and there's hundreds of suits per year. If I get off on a rant here...good. I love how when anything goes wrong, it's gotta be someone else's fault. I'm not fat because I ate too much and couldn't stay away, but because you didn't tell me not to eat so much. Think about it. 100 years ago if someone tried to sue a company because they didn't put a fat disclaimer on their food. "Warning...eating too much of this will make you fat." Holy crap! Eating too much of anything will make you fat. It's no secret! And if there are stupid people out there who can't figure out that too much smoking, drink, eating, etc...is bad for them...fuck'em! Survival of the "I'm not a complete moron" has to play into the picture somewhere. If you weigh 300 pounds and try to sue someone for it, I would jump on top of you and beat you senseless to try and knock some back into you. Wanna sue someone? Sue your parents for raising such a helpless person. Sue the state for not properly educating you if you had no parents! Let me tell you...if I was the judge in the court I would look and say. "Uh yea, you're an idiot. Food makes you fat if you eat too much. Maybe you should have thought about that before shoving it down your throat faster than some freshman in college chugging a beer at a party to impress some ugly girl. Now get out of my court room you stupid stupid man and take your insane lawyer with you, NEXT CASE!"

Ok, I feel better now. Seriously though, we're a country that will not admit to anything being our fault. Not as individuals, and certainly not as a country. I'm shocked that the news reporters didn't bust out laughing while reading that story on air! With that being said I think I'm gonna go grab a quad-cheeseburger with the "super-size oh my god I need a dump truck" size fries and a gallon of cola to wash it down...oh and a small frosty. Should hold me over till lunch.

Ironically I was just talking to my sister (who is a corporate lawyer) about this lawsuit the other day. I was asking her about the possibility of McDonalds filing a counter suit to recover any legal fees that they have to pay their lawyers for in this situation and she said that those fees fall under some type of agreement (can't remeber exactly the legal term she used) but it states that if this woman loses that she will also have to pay McDonald's lawyer fees as well. She says it's a little known fact that the plaintiff's attorney usually "forgets" to tell them about before taking the case. Let's see; as an under-estimate, 4 attorneys on retainer at $100.00 an hour x 8 hours a day for 1 week = $22,400 per week. Now that would suck!!!
