Brain teaser 2 for larger brains

What part of a train is going twice as fast as the train?
What part of a train is going backwards?

I'll be back later with the answer..and yes, both questions are valid? And both conditons true.

I'll be back later with the answers. Trust me this makes a good bar bet because it does not seem possible.

As for the backwards, I would say one of the cars attached to the train. I have seen some Metra trains with the locomotive riding backwards. As for the other question, don't know yet.

The very top of the wheel travels at 2x the trains speed.

The very bottom of the wheel is travelling backwards.

This is gonna make the coolest bar bet ever! HAHAHAHAH, I just can't wait to explain the physics of a rolling train wheel to all those losers at the bar who don't believe me!

Tom wins. Big boy with big brain and a darn fast rider.

A good explaination http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/~jw/rolling.html

A cool way to win bar bets is to carry a bolt with differently sized washers bolted together. Just mark a point on the flange portion\washer and roll it along the edge of the bar. Lots of strange things happen when linear and rotary motion are combined.

That's how it should've been asked.

Look more closely at the red line on the graph. A point on the flange does in fact travel backwards relative to the ground.
For simplicity, think of the differences in circumference. Both are rotating at the same speed and traveling the same distance forward. A point on the flange travels further through space than a point on the rolling dia. That extra distance has to be absorbed somewhere.
