Looking for smaller HDTV...

Well in my current living situation I am very close to my TV screen. About 4' away I usually sit. I had a 25" tube TV, and just "upgraded" for a 32" tube TV that I got for free. 32" basically feels BIG for as close as I am sitting.

Originally I thought about purchasing a 42" Panasonic Plasma HDTV, now I am having second thoughts. I can't imagine sitting that close to something another 10" larger. I don't think I would be doing the screen justice.

So until I can move into a new place and setup a nice TV room, I would like to get a smaller tv that can handle HD. When I move this one can go into my bedroom or something.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should be looking for? Flat panel would be nice, but I don't want to spend too much on this TV. Probably looking in the range of $1000.

I was kind of leaning towards a flat panel, but that is definietely a tough price to beat.

It says it supports 480p/1080i, does that mean a 720p broadcast would be upscaled?

That model doesn't have an HD tuner in it so you'd have to use it with a sat box or cable box... But that's not too big a deal (not sure how many HD OTA channels you guys have in chicago area though)... It's not true 1080i as it only has 900 lines of resolution, so it's processor probably scales both 720p and 1080i signals to it's native resolution. The price looks good if you are only wanting a tv that size.

I have Comcast HD service, so that's not an issue.

Went and looked at a few TV's at lunch. Pretty much decided 26" widescreen is f'n small. You get hosed on the diagonal measurement when it comes to a widescreen TV. I guess if I was to do a smaller one I am looking at a minimum 30". 30" conventional HDTV's run around 8-900 for a decent one by the looks of it. But damn those things are deep.

Not sure what I'm going to do...
