WTF?!?! $250 for tires on a '91 Civic?

I've been calling around to find some crap tires for the gf's shitbox. $250 is the best I'm hearing so far. I can't believe that the cheapest tires for a this thing are that much. I maen they're only 13" tires! (175/70r13) So far I've tried Discount, NTB, and Pep Boys. She is only going to have this car for 6 months to a year, and with Christmas upon us, cash is tight.

Any suggestions? Hook ups?

Thanks in advance guys.

Tire rack.com has an option to check for local shops to do the work at an established rate and drop shipped, meaning you order them up and they ship to the shop (at least I *think*). Bringing in a set to a normal shop will add close to $100 to the price.

Check Wal-mart. My brother got 4 14-inch tires, installed for $220 on his truck. Also check Farm and Fleet.

Firestone - they have little service centers all over.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

I just got new tires on my civic for like $209 at Pep Boys. They had a $20 off $100 coupon though, so that helped.

Maybe try calling a different Pep Boys?

Go see "The Tire Man" off 142nd and Western. They are a division of the u-pull-it yards and pull off any of the good tire before they get to the main yards. They have some seriously good looking rubber for cheap. I've spent $20/tire in the past for almost brand new Goodyear Eagles in 15" and got a huge amount of miles out of them. If they don't look really good, they don't bother pulling them. You'll be out of there with almost new rubber all around for about $100. Usually 20/tire and 5/tire for mounting.

I was thinking the same. Other suggestions are, EBAY, but then again, it depends on how soon you need it.

It's that time of season where you don't want to skimp on decent tires, atleast for her safety. Unless you want to get rid of her 'lol'. I just purchased 4 Bridgestone Potenza G009 with UNI-T from Firestone, I think I paid around $380.

Tire rack has them for $62 each. They might be less than that for her size rim. They have a 4 1/2 star rating for an all season tire. You can avoid shipping charges if you can pick them up yourself, but they might tax you on the tires.

ps. what ever tire you plan on purchasing you should look them up on tirerack and read the ratings.

good luck

+1

If you aren't going to use the car for a long time, Why spend mad amounts of cash for something you plan to use for a few months and toss away. Find some good rubber at the yard, and ride out the winter. I just went here a week ago. I didn't pick up any tires, but I looked at some of the cars and they had lots of tread on many of the tires. I only use my car over the winter. When it warms up, I'm tossing that thing in the corner of the backyard. Therefore, most of my parts will come from a junk yard .
My car is a peice of crap, and I'm going to keep it that way (1990 Pontiac Bonneville).

This may be the route I take, she literally only drives the thing 15-20 miles per week. Thanks for the help guys.

She can always walk. 15 miles a week is just couple miles a day.

But you can be the one to tell her that option.

The last set of tires I purchased were 15 inchers for my fiance's grand am. I paid about 45 per tire for brand new Kellys and I just mounted and balanced them myself. Doesn't pep boys ussually have a sale 4 tires for 99 bucks. They are probably bottom of the line tires but that might get you through the season and save some money,

If you just need tires to get you by for six months or so you can go to the guy on North just west of 25th ave. Real cheap and they usually have stock tires that have some decent tread left. PM me if you want more info.

My name is JB, people call me JB
