Cherry flavored?

They were originally marketed as CheeriOats and had the slogan "Cheer up with CheeriOats." I think it has more to do with cheer than cherries.

What? You don't get up and do a little cheer routine whenever you pour a bowl? I think you might be the only one.

Isn;t it a play on the English phrase cheerio meanings good luck or something like that?

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

I think 'Cheerio' is a way to say "good day" or "toodleloo"

They use it as a greeting and a farewell. It is kind of like bona fortuna. It is a general positive expression from one person to another.

Oh and Hunny, Cherry is spelled with 2 r's. Cheerios is spelled with 1 r. Next thing you know, you will be telling us that chicken of the sea is not tuna fish.
