Car Upgrade

Ok i recieved this letter from Mitsubishi saying they have been authorized in this last week of the year to offer top dollar on trade ins for 2003 Evolutions. And they will give good deals on 2005 and 2006 Evolutions or any other mitsu's. Naturally I would love to have and 06 Evo 9 with the new Mivec and better turbo. Plus it now has a front limited slip and active center diff which the 03 was missing.

I have heard of these "letters" being sent out before. I was thinking of calling and seeing what I could get. Anybody have any experience with a dealer buy back like this? Any opinions? Thanks!

The letter says its just for 03 Evos that there is a high demand and that they have been authorized to offer top dollar to acquire some.

I don't think I've ever heard of a single car dealer losing money on a car... ever.

Your trade in to the dealer is never going to be close to the price you'd get with an ad in the paper. So I don't know what kind of "top dollar" value you're going to get. ...and I can almost promise that whatever you get on your trade will be reflected in the negotiations on the new ride... "

Too many opportunities to get screwed in this transaction. That said, if you want a new car, this isn't a bad way to find out what your car is worth.

In a nutshell, the dealer wants your decent car back to sell to someone else - and they want you to buy a nicer, newer, more expensive car from them today!

Thanks guys this is good info. I was just curious. I called up and what you guys said seems to be true. The guy basically wants me to bring in my evo so they can appraise it. And I was asking about the deals on the new ones and he said he doesn't know about an OTD price right now. So basically sounds like they are just trying to get me in there. It really got me thinking about upgrading though. I guess thats the point. Maybe I will just go with the private party sale and then upgrade on my own.

while a good rule of thumb, this isn't always true. Perfect example. my father recently purchased a new car he had a trade in, which he listed in the paper for $3500, he didn't even get 1 phone call. A few days later he took the car in on trade, they offered him $4500 and gave him the car at GM Supplier price (below invoice) now granted I know everybody at the dealership, and I am sure that helped but even if they would have given my dad the same $3500, he would have still made out better because of the credit on the trade in.

LOL...exactly.

The dealerships send those out to all buyers, with their car listed. It's just a marketing gimmick.

The 06 EVO is nice, but unless you are racing the thing, you don't need the front LSD and MIVEC is not worth trading for a new car and taking a hit on the initial deprication on yet another car.

If you really are hurting to blow money on the Evo, drive it over to AutoMotoSports and take a lookat what they can do for you. For the price difference in mods, you can literally destroy a stock Evo 9.

trust me I know about the mods for and evo. I will be tracking my car with an audi car club next year. I have been looking into getting the quaiffe front LSD, it is 1500. either way the evo9 and the mivec resondes twice as well as the evo 8 to mods. any how it was all just a thought.

I that case, just keep the car as is and save the money on tires/brakes/paint and dent removal. LOL

A stock EVO is more than most normal humans can handle anyways. It's like getting a GSXR1000 on the track and says it turn turn laps fast enough. Then someone else jumps on it and annihilates your time.

I assume you're taking road course when you say track, and not the drag strip.

Back in September of '04 the Subaru guaranteed trade-in value for my '03 WRX was $1500 over blue book. They also offered $500 in "Subaru bucks" which could be used for maintenance or upgrades. They sent me several letters, and I finally went in to see if they were for real. I drove out the same day with a great deal on an '05 STi. I used the Subaru bucks a week later to install a short-throw shifter. Nolan and I felt very comfortable with the price we paid for the new car. All in all, I was a happy camper!

Best of luck with whatever you decide!!

Yeah well mitsu isn't offering any guarentee over blue book. If they were that would be a thought.

But for my purposes I have decided to keep my 03 EVO VIII. It hasn't given me any problems. I am just going to get a quaife from LSD for the road courses cause that is really what i want in the newer evos. The quaife is much stronger then stock and also has a lifetime warranty. If I need more power or low end I can get cams and a 10.5 hotside on the stock turbo or a whole new turbo all together. In the end I will be saving money and going with a proven package. Thanks for humoring me people!!!
