I think for server memory sake that the idle profiles could be deleted. If they just want to browse they can do that without a member account.....

BAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Banning seems so severe though. I suppose it would depend on what you are trying to do. If its member quality, then I say you should only count posts in certain forums, especially the technical forums. Also, what does a member actually get, other than a name to post under? I'm new to the site so forgive my ignorance. I belong to several car clubs that depending upon your post counts, you gain access to different forums.

I think the only advantage is if someone is taking a user name someone else might want. I doubt you'll see much of a savings in server memory. The user info should be stored in an indexed database--row count doesn't necessarily slow down searches and physical space for the data is trivial.

You might be able to delete accounts that are inactive, haven't logged in a certain amount of time. If you could combine that criteria, with post count you would probably be safe.

The only thing I would point out is that I'd hate to see a serviceman lose their account if they haven't been stateside for the past year. But if their total post count is 5 it might not be a big deal.

just my $.02

no don't ban them. A member is a member regardless if they have 23,349 posts, or 5. I have read very good posts from members with 5 or less posts, and we were all at one time, a member with 5 or less posts. Besides, what does it hurt. Now those memebers that have not logged on in over a year, they can be banned and deleted (house cleaning) but if they have logged on in the last year, even if they didn't post, they are still members.

Isn't banning them to prevent them from coming back? Sounds a bit harsh... I'd just delete their accounts and send an email saying it was removed due to no activity.

Now the non-PC answer - FUK 'EM! Git rid of 'em!!

Id get rid of the ones that havent logged on in a year. AND have zero posts.

Also, Tony may want to chime in, but if the site continues to grow, and more sponsors are on the horizon, saying that there are 3000 members when you justify the cost to sponsor, is better than saying there are 1000 members, as a marketing tool, more members = more exposure, and whether they're active or not, you're not lying when you give them a total member count. Tony and you may eventually want some coin for all your hard work. Lots of sites have sponsoring members to offset the costs of running the show. Thanks guys for your efforts, and for not charging us.

Good point on the member count. Unless unused profiles tie up the server, I don't see the need for deleting them. Like BG said, you may want to delete those who have not logged in for a year..

Naw, I think Ken was stoned. If he was drunk, there would have been cap locks, incoherent rambling, and a references to il_ag serving strawberry shortcake out of her ass crack. lol

Forget about the non posters and ban some of the weirdos we've have on the board. I know it is all relative, but I can name a few off the top of my head that just plain creeped me out. Like that whiteSeatEnvy mutha fuka! That guy has got to go!

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

I vote no ban, I am registered at GSXR.com and only have seven posts. I haven't posted since July, but I still read the posts on the thread. Many of the people on there are from Cali, and often they talk about local rides. So I mostly listen in on important gixxer info that comes along. I could understand the deletion of folks who have five posts and have not logged on in over a year, but that would be about it from me.

You know the Staples commercial with the big "Easy" button. I think we need one for Ken that says "Ban Him" or maybe "Nuke Him".

Ken,

I would advise AGAINST banning. However, it would be an excellent marketing tool to use to get them to be more active. If you can generate an email to the "slackers" something to the effect of (very rough draft):

============
Dear CLSB Member,

Thank you for signing up for Chicagoland Sportbikes. We are in the process of cleaning up our member records and we have noticed that your account activity has been low these past few months. In order to protect your account, please log in to CLSB and post on a more frequent basis. If you log in within the next 30 days, you will protect your account. If you do not post, your account will be deleted from the system. Should you wish to rejoin CLSB at a future date, that is fine. Just go to (insert Join/Sign-Up link here) and rejoin our community.

CLSB is a community of riders (or rephrase as you wish to describe CLSB) which depends on the participation of its members. We hope to see you around the CLSB board more often. It is a great place to both learn all about sportbikes as well as to share your knowledge with others.

Best regards,

CLSB Administrator

======================

I would recommend against banning. At the very most, just delete all of the accounts that fall below your minimum. I would think that if someone becomes interested in the future, you/we would be happy to have them participate if times allows them to.

Just my thoughts,

Brian
