My wifes continues to use AAA Jewelry on Ogden just W of Main St in Downers Grove, even after we've moved. She's has numerous repairs there at reasonable costs. At least thats what she tells me.

Wife has worked for a jeweler in the mall for 8yrs. For work that cant be done inhouse, her store as well as others there and in the area have an independant that picks up, and drops of repairs once a week. I cannot count the many times we personally had repair work done over the years and has been great. Without getting raked over the coals. See Angie at Zales.

If it's not too much trouble for you to go into the city...you'll have lot's of options in Jewler's Row at 5 S. Wabash in Chicago. There are tons of jewlers and jewlery repair services in that building.

I already put my foot down on that one. That ring represents the best I could afford for her at that time. (which wasnt much by the way) and I worked my ass off for it. Now I will buy her other stuff now (i.e. tennis braceltes etc) but that ring stays

Which is why I've been putting off all my jewelry work. I've got a 3-stone diamond ring that I inherited from my father - it is a very masculine setting and I wanted to have it reworked into something more feminine. The stones aren't "massive" (each is 1/3 ct.) but they are of very high quality. Since they're pretty much all I have left of Dad, I'm really hesitant to hand it over to some stranger.

What I'd like to find is a jeweler who will "unset" the stones, hand them back to me, rework the setting and then "reset" the stones while I watch.

Candlelight Jewelers in nile does really good work and I trust them with some of the most expensive Masonic jewelery you've ever seen. Prices are good as well. Email me for more info if you need it.

that won't happen....but a reputable jeweler will verify the diamonds in front of you before they are sent out and then show them to you when they return. If worried, get another jeweler to look as well.
Their reputations are at stake so a good jeweler shouldn't be a problem. You can take them to the cleaners if they screw up and they know it.
