HUGE fire in downtown, just south of the Loop

I can see it from my building on Wacker and Adams. It looks like the top of a building is on fire. The flames are aobut 200 feet into the air. I'll post pictures.

Sorry about the bad quality. They are taken from my cell phone cam with the digital zoom. The fire isn't far from here.

Never a bad time to climb... unless the weather is really horrible, and then you climb inside!

Brian, any idea what building is on fire or what streets are near it?

I don't think its more than 7 blocks south of me and a couple blocks east.

Fire department has reported that the roof has collasped. There are no injuries reported at this time. They are trying to containt the fire within the church wind blowing eastward causing a problem....

Facts (as reported by the newscaster):
Birthplace of gospel music
8 million went into reserving it as a historical landmark by the city

Looks at this point it is beyond saving. I'm sure more details will be on local news stations.

Glad no one seems to be injured.

Huge pillars have collasped on the eastside of the building. Images are being projected from the Sears Tower.... Huge fire! Built in 1830 and was built as a Jewish Synagogue (another reported fact). History is burning.

Holy smokes! I heard it is hotter than hell in there.

"includes 10 used-car dealers or auto repair shops, 11 liquor stores and bars--two of which advertise lingerie fashion shows and a third billed as a "gentlemen's club"--three cut-rate motels and one trailer park. The squat, brick municipal building is next to a currency exchange and a few steps from an adult video store. The bars open at 10 a.m. and close at 6:30 a.m."

No, I think that one was much further south.

Jeeze, that's awful. I used to go past that church every morning, going to work, and never realized how significant it was.
