Worried about our image???????

I just heard that the new Adidas commercial includes a clip of a sportbike doing a wheelie down a crowded city street. I have some mixed feelings about this and I know we've gone over this issue before so I'm not stating my opinion. I just want to make you guys aware of the clip. I haven't seen it yet though. Has anyone seen it????

I've seen it... looks like a Busa with a custom paint job (like a smaller blu/white Gixxer)

Yeah... I definitely can't claim innocense on this issue either. I see some people on other boards like the R1 forum are really pissed about it, but you read about guys doing stuff like that all the time. I guess it's only wrong if it's on tv right

i see nothing wrong with it...and it may be good for the stunt community. the bike is in the scene for a whole 2 seconds and it is hidden behind the car. btw, the person "executing" the wheelie is jon jon from wheelie boyz.
also, i heard on stuntlife that there was a Reebok commercial with Kobe Bryant lane splitting.

It appears to be a blue/white Gixxer doing the wheelie. I dont think its actually necessary to have a bike doing a wheelie in a shoe commercial.

Life is too short to ride anything but an R1

Seen it. Didn't mind it. However I would have liked to see the dude in some gear. Looks like he's either wearing just a hat, or a half-lid of some kind.

Oh well. I'm sure it will only get worse when that movie comes out. Can the Stunt'n Mountain Dew Commercial be far behind?

seen the commercial and not too worried about it. Never crossed my mind about the image. All I was thinking was how dumb the commercial actually was.

Dude sooooo true... I'm certain it won't be long before we see a Mountain Dew commercial with a bunch of stunters pulling endos, ghost riding, etc...

I know I haven't been in this community for that long (who knows... maybe a fresh perspective could yield a decent point or two)... but even before when I was a 'civillian' for almost 22 years... I never looked down on sportbike riders or thought they were all maniacs who pulled ape-hangers while splitting lanes in rush-hour traffic. Nor did people I hung out with... of course we didn't see bikes in Columbus very often but I'm just trying to make a point... maybe I just hadn't been around bikes and bikers enough to form those negative opinions.

Most of the time... when I meet someone and they find out I ride a sport bike... they just think I'm a lunatic in general... but not because of what they see on TV or have seen in movies... just because motorcycling is inherently dangerous.

Now the last thing I want to do is draw personal criticism (sp?) from this post. I'm not trying to tell anyone how it is... or how it should be... just trying to share my personal experiences and thoughts. Maybe some of you more experienced guys could let me in on why you think a motorcycle doing a wheelie through traffic on a commercial gives us a bad name... not that I'm saying it doesn't but there's probably a big part of the story I'm not missing

Most people don't care if we endanger ourselves, that's our perogative. When they see someone taking risks around other vehicles that tends to scare them. They call you stupid cause it may be endangering them as well as you. So they start generalizing cyclists

I think we tend to be more self conscience about this then we need to be. If you put that commercial in front of 100 people half sprtbike riders and half normal non-riders I bet all of the sportbike riders would notice the bike is even in it. and most of the non riders would not even notice that it was there at all.

Just out of curiosity,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, What image are you worried about?
The cops already hate sportbikes and anyone that rides them.
Does anyone else's opinion matter?

I havent seen the commercial yet, but to me it sounds like no big deal.

This is gonna hurt!

That's not entirely true. My boss thinks anyone who rides a motorcycle is suffering from a mental illness. He thinks they are dangerous and no matter how I explain it to him, he doesn't see any differently. I don't do stunts (as most of you well know), and I don't particularly care if I learn anytime soon or not anyway. Doesn't matter to my boss. Also no matter what anyone I talk to who knows nothing about bikes in general thinks that all sportbike riders do stunts and endanger people around them and that all cruisers do is drink beer and stand around admiring their bikes Whatever! I give up telling them any different. People have their views, I just roll my eyes and go on about my business.

I couldn't pull a wheelie to save my life and most of the guys I know (with cruisers) RIDE their bikes. Who cares what people think?

Oh, I almost forget, I love that stupid sneer and the word 'crotchrockets' I hear when I tell people I ride a sportbike. That sounds so condescending.

What's wrong with drinking beer and standing around admiring your bike! Sportbike riders do that too!

I've seen it quite a few times.... looks like a blue/white TLR to me (the graphics and subframe).

can someone please explain what that bike doing a wheelie next to a camaro (or whatever it was) has to do with Adidas???
I dont get it
I can see like Mountain Dew extreme commercias, but Adidas?

Not only that, but what is the big deal? So a commercial shows someone pulling a wheelie next to a car? Take a look at some of the other dumbass commercials out there. Like that Mountain Dew one with that guy headbutting that Ram. Some dumbass prolly tried that. Or the one with that old-school trans am flipping over and the driver grabbing the pop bottle from the kid's hands.
Its just stupid stunts that look cool on TV to sell something.

I hope to see more wheelies in commercials personally...

No big deal, really.

BTW - that Kobe Bryant commercial that was aired 1 1/2 or 2 years ago was f'ing insane!! I forget what kind of bike he was on (obviously NOT him, but a stunt rider) but he was lane-splitting, speeding, and driving like he was stacking blow and acid. Not the best advertisement for riding, but to sell his image. (jacked up on coke and acid? haha ) again, cool to watch..

Because they want owning Adidas to be something that "cool people" do? They want to associate owning Adidas with the same level of coolness as smoking a Camaro on one wheel. Ultimately, they want you to feel cool owning a pair of Adidas!

Kind of like the Calvin Klein commercials where you couldn't even tell what was being advertised besides sex with teenagers. You know owning CKs get you laid. Wait a minute, all my jeans are Levi's, guess THAT explains it!

read like 1/10 of the thread, so ive got no clue if this was stated....

why worry about it? should you be worried about the fact that every movie that seems to have a mortorcycle in it belongs to some gangs, thugs or group of asians?

pffffffttttt....who cares.....

if i believed one commercial defined my image, i would be one insecure fella....

I define my image, if you're too thick headed to see through a sterotype and actually get ta know someone then i dont needcha!

Bah humbug.....lol
