Vegas Area Riding

Went out a few weeks ago with my younger bro and had a blast! Rented a schoolbus for the day and was very impressed by it. I think I was about 30 years too young to be seen riding it, though. My brother doesn't ride but wanted to come along, so I figured I may as well get something comfortable and not have him leaning on me all day. He commented that it was more comfortable than his car.

We went all the way to the top of Death Valley National Park and drove through the whole park from top to bottom. It's beautiful this time of year - there are live plants in the valley. In a month most everything will be dried up and dormant for the season. Still pretty hot during the day ~80+. Took my Joe Rocket mesh because it was easy to pack and paid for it on the way home. We got caught in the dark with 100 miles of mountain roads to go and temps dropped way down. Even the windshield and hot air vents didn't help too much. Avoided several coyotes and smaller animals running across the road as well as some asshat who neglected to use his own passing lane and came into my one and only lane. I rode onto the shoulder (lucky to have one there) and swear he still clipped my mirror but couldn't find any marks. Surprised it didn't leave any in my pants.

It was definitely a huge difference compared to my R1 - it's over twice the weight and gave me a good workout. Hard to believe how easily it leans into the turns. I would've loved having my own bike out there - some major carving opportunities, but the thought of crashing a rented bike and carrying a passenger kept me well in check. Cost about $165 including taxes and insurance for 24 hour unlimited miles. Maybe even less for some of you - I'm under 25 so I think it cost a bit more.

All in all over 440 trouble free miles and before I dropped it off I took it out to Hoover Dam early in the a.m. Pretty amazing country out there - I'll be heading out there again asap.

Very nice. I'm heading out to Vegas mid March. (2nd time!) The first time out all I did was play hold em' I think I saw a total of 4 hours of daylight! (for a 4 day period!)
I think I'll try this, this time around. Where did you go to rent?

Thx!!

Jesse

I rented from a place called Moturis Inc. - they're on the web too. Unfortunately, they were also a $25 taxi ride from the strip. While they were really easy to deal with, I'd rent closer to the strip and pay the added rental fee rather than $50 worth of cabs.

I know, no helmet. I really can't get used to the feeling of riding without one. I gave it about an hour and it was feeling so wierd I had to put it back on.

I just got back from Vegas last weekend. Was about 60 degrees everyday, but it was a very nice 60 degrees considering it was -10 here

Next time I head out I'd like to rent a bike and do some site seeing through the desert.
