Are you sure the whole HD is gone or just the boot sector? my hard drive failed on my home computer last year and i thought I had lost all of my data and pictures and music. But I piggy backed it as a slave on the new computer that I bought and voila it was all there and i copied it over. Give it a shot.

That's not good.

I would try what was said earlier. Make it a second drive to see if you can get to anything.

I'm going to have to try that. the boot sector thing makes sense. the computer go's to boot, then hit sthe windows xp screen, then flashs a blue screen and reboots, its a vicious circle that will keep repeating.

Yeah, just check to see if you can see the drive in the bios, if not, bye bye data. If you need your info real bad. You can take it to one of those data recovery places, but they want huge jack to do that for you.

the drive is dying, Tony you want to quit screwing with it, go get a replacement drive, and slap an OS on it, then put the drive in as a slave copy your data to the new drive... and then go out to Des Plaines and put it on Ken's thrower and load the semi auto...

I guarentee it will work. It is damn near impossible to corrupt a whole HD. maybe some files or locations but not the whole thing. There is no way you lost it all. Unless you came close to a huge magnet. Then your F'ed

there was a virus awhile ago that would keep cycling through the reboot process. Probably a long shot, but thought I'd through it out there.

Yeah, I've got an external hard drive kit, it came with a board I can plug into an IDE drive and then connect it to a computer via USB 2.0. I use it to swap out drives with various data.

I've also fixed a few drives by swapping the controller boards on the drive itself. My drives were generally making noises and I was unable to get anything (doesn't sound like your problem). I went and bought a similar drive and swapped the board. Bingo.

I remember that virus. But HDTony is getting the blue screen of death that tells you what exception is occuring. That isn't the virus. That is the HD.
