Illinois Speed Cameras to Take License on 2nd Offense
Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones in July. Second offense tickets are $1000 with license suspension.

WorkzoneBeginning in July the State of Illinois will use speed cameras in areas designated as "work zones" on major freeways. Anyone caught by the devices will be mailed a $375 ticket for the first offense, but a second ticket will cost $1000 and comes with a 90-day license suspension. Drivers will also face higher insurance premiums as the first offense remains on the record for 4-5 years, but a second offense remains for a minimum of 7 years. This represents the harshest penalty structure yet for a city using photo enforcement.

The state will begin with two camera vans issuing tickets in zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH. Photographs of both the driver's face and license plate are taken. Officials plan to keep at least one van in the Chicago area on the Dan Ryan and Kingery Expressways while other vans issue tickets in the rest of the state. Illinois Tollway Executive Director Jack Hartman promised more work zones: "Since the Tollway just launched our $5.3 billion Congestion Relief Plan, drivers will see more work zones on the Tollway than they have in the past."

Text of Illinois speed camera law.

Article Excerpt:

IDOT's announcement represents yet another use of technology by authorities to crack down on traffic scofflaws. Chicago has been installing stationary cameras at busy intersections to catch and ticket red-light runners. During approximately the first year of the program, cameras at 10 locations had generated 67,400 citations, city officials said last fall.

Wooah, 67,400 X 75.00 a pop is around 5 million in revenue from their little cams. Looks like I will have to go Top Gear show style 160 mph here we come

It does work, but I remember reading somewhere that you're really paying $30 for clearcoat in an aerosol can.

With all the red light cams and now the work zone vans...I wonder how much longer until the emperor of Chicago starts installing stationary speed cams on the highway.

Running red lights causes accidents, so don't do it.

As for speeding, the law says that the driver has to be identified in a picture. I will just wear my helmet even while drive my car, nothing illegal about that.

“Being banned by a state is the greatest proof we have that PhotoBlocker (tm) really works the way we claim. They would not ban it if it didn’t work,” said Joe Scott of PhantomPlate, Inc., maker of the product.

Maybe! Or another possibility:

Being banned by a state legislature is the greatest proof that we can include in our advertising to sell our product.

The stuff does work, as for it being just a high gloss clear or not- I have no idea and it might be just that. I guess someone here needs to buy some high gloss clear and go on a spree of blowning through the ipass lanes and speed through a few work zones and report back to us.

There was a news team that tested out the spray with some radar camera or something and it did work... check out the video links I posted above.

Is is worth the cash??? I dunno... maybe if I had to travel in the camera hot spots everyday and had some problems with tickets I'd give it a try.

Guys....this product is a re-packaging job. It's made by Krylon, it's called Reflect-A-Light. Ace Industrial in Elk Grove use to sell it...if memory serves me $13.99 a can. Grangier also sells it, I think they will sell to anyone....I have an account.

Yeah they really are the same thing. If you have pledge and honda polish, check out the ingredients on the back. I saw it on another forum, a guy cleaned one side with pledge and the other side with honda polish and nobody could tell the difference. I think the massive can of pledge is around 4 or 5 bucks, the small can of honda polish is usually the same price.
