Not surprising. There was no way RIM would let BB service end.

Funny, originally in 2001 (IIRC) they appealed an order to pay $23 to settle it.

Would have been better to take the slap on the wrist then and have been done with it.

True but in '01, they did not have the subscriber base and revenues that they have now and with many carriers using the BB device for more than just email, their revenue streams will continue to grow

And a 30 minute talk to an investor could have parted them with the $$ to pay the original settlement in return for wonderfully nice and lucrative equity holdings in the company. They f*cked up

Well with gov't pressure, not sure they would have had a choice. If they were starting to invalidate their patents then it would have been a bigger loss. Only reason they invalidated that one patent was because of gov't pressure.
