camping with water sports around, suggestions

okay question for all you outdoorsy people. I have a group of people that want to go camping for a weekend, and I have asked to pick the place, but I really have no idea where to look for places...

Here is what I am hoping for...

a nice facility with enough room for a host of tents for a 3 day weekend. Some place in the area that I can rent a boat or jetski (actually both) to do some water skiing. The place doesn't have to be ON the water, just close enough to it that it makes sense. I had thought about lake geneva area, but it's simply to expensive to rent water craft there. I am also hoping for a place that is pet friendly for a dog. and finally, not to far from chicago (say no more then 3 hours away)

any suggestions?

I was going to give you suggestions until you said no to more than 3 hours away... Michigan RULEZ the outdoors... Winsconsin is not too bad either.

Camping, Harrisville, Lake Huron

They have boat access, hot water showers... its a blast.

MI is fine, just keep in mind that it has to be a place that offers rentals for boats and jetski's... if i wanted to go further then 3 hours away, the northwoods of wisconsin is a natural choice, I know it very well, and it has everything I would want, but I have a feeling that it will be hard to convince everybody thats the place to go

You could try Lake Clinton in Dewitt, IL. Has a huge campground with a boat ramp.

Cons- It will be crowded, don't know about rentals, cops are assholes. (Had a conservation cop run through the bushes into my campsite at 11:30pm and give us the third degree about drinking, wanting to see if we were 21. The fucker was actually watching us through binoculars!)

It's areally nice park with a beach and everything though, a good time could definetly break out there.

Tippicanoe River State Park in Indiana. We went camping there with friends many summers ago. It isn't far from Bass Lake, either.

Check out some places near Lake Koshkonong, about 5 mile north of Janesville, WI.. I'm pretty sure camping and jetski rentals are nearby. It's about 2 and a half hours from my place in the SW suburbs.
