Remember...

How many do you remember?

1. Candy cigarettes.
2. Wax coke-shaped bottles with colored sugar water inside.
3. Soda pop machines that dispensed glass bottles.
4. Coffee shops with tableside juke boxes.
5. Blackjack, Clove and Teaberry chewing gum.
6. Home milk delivery in glass bottles, with cardboard stoppers.
7. Party lines.
8. Newsreels before the movie.
9. P. F. Flyers.
10. Butch wax.
11. Telephone numbers with a word prefix, (Drexel-5505).
12. Peashooters.
13. Howdy.
14. 45-RPM Records.
15. Green Stamps.
16. Hi-fi's.
17. Metal ice cube trays-with levers.
18. Mimeograph paper.
19. Blue flash Bulbs.
20. Beanie and Cecil.
21. Roller skate keys.
22. Cork pop guns.
23. Drive ins.
24. Studebakers.
25. Wash tub wringers.
26. The Fuller Brush man.
27. Reel-to-reel tape recorders.
28. Tinkertoys.
29. The Erector Set.
30. The Fort Apache Playset.
31. Lincoln Logs.
32. 15 cent McDonald hamburgers.
33. 5 cent packs of baseball cards...with that awful pink slab of bubblegum.
34. Penny candy.
35. 35 cent-a-gallon gasoline.

AND A TIME WHEN ...................

Decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-mo."
Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "Do over!"
"Race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest.
Catching the fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening.
It wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends.
The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties.
Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a slingshot.
A foot of snow was a dream come true.
Saturday morning cartoons weren't 30-minute ads for action figures.
"Oly-oly-oxen-free" made perfect sense.
Spinning around, getting dizzy, and falling down was cause for giggles.
The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team.
War was a card game.
Water balloons were the ultimate weapon.
Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle.
Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable aspirin.
If you can remember most or all of these, then you have lived!!!!

no kidding. I remember the "penny gum" and sticking about 25 of them into my mouth and not being able to talk in school. Then when the teacher asked if I had enough for everyone, I opened the bag and about 75 more flew out. wow... what a $1 bought!

My route to school went past a candy store, drug store AND a bakery (I will NEVER forget that smell!). On the way back to school after lunch, we'd stop at the candy store for those little fruit-shaped plastic containers with the powdered fruit-flavored candy inside... you could either mix it with water or eat it straight (the grape guaranteed a blue tongue!)

Can I go back to being 9 now? Please???

Here's some more.....

1. When men wore the tattoos and women wore the earrings

2. Air raid drills

3. When the Blackhawks were on FREE TV (WGN, I believe)

4. Baltimore Catechism (you had to go to Catholic school to understand this one)

5. Another Catholic school reference - when nuns actually taught, and they had reputations as drill sergeants!

6. When nitroglycerine was the way heart disease was treated (I still remember my dad messing with me by threatening to throw his pill bottle to the floor!)

I remember being told that if the Harlem-Irving shopping center were to be hit by a massive earthquake, Wieboldt's would survive. Why???

Because Wieboldts wobble but they don't fall down!!!

I remember my dad using butch wax in his hair! Also guns. We would look around all day for that perfect branch for a rifle!

Anyone remember that little "blob" of something we would put on a straw and blow these incredible bubbles? They were all different colors and the smell was awesome. If you ever smelled it once you never ever forgot that beautiful sweet smell.

Ohh yeah i was the owner of an original Red Ryder BB gun as well. Its funny on the old memories.

For the younger ones---how about Sunday afternoon classics on WGN?

We had a drive-in back home, but now it's a Home Depot Brother got pissed when he couldn't take his wife there to get away from the parents for a night.

I think there's still one on the South side of Milwaukee, somewhere between I-94 and College Ave on 27th street.
